Not only have I lost somewhere between 15 and 20 lbs in six weeks, (don't know for sure until Tom is gone), but my recent exam was amazing. My cholesterol has actally gone down-160, my blood pressure is 120/70 and my thyroid function has improved- it used to be a very low "normal" range, but now is right in the middle. My doctor was very pleased. The only thing I changed since my last exam was to give up high carb/low fat eating and begin Atkins. Also, I feel great. If I never lost another pound, I would continue eating this way because it makes me feel so well- No more pains in the knees and plenty of energy. I used to get a great deal of heartburn so the doctor had scheduled a GI series. I found out that I have a moderate hiatal hernia- which never bothers me anymore! She was quite surprised to hear this. I can not belieive the Government is still mandating the pyramid way of eating. How many people are they going to hurt or even kill before they start paying attention to the new research? I have not had much desire to cheat, but when I feel weak, I turn to this great website and all of you! LOL from georgia...

Brennan, congrats on your excellent health report!! Isn't this WOE amazing? I'm with you - if I NEVER lost another pound, I'll stick with this forever. I feel great and I love what I'm eating. I'm not even tempted to go off plan any more - too many good things ON plan to worry about the junk I no longer eat! Char Being "over the hill" is much better than being under it....

I love your over the hill message-quite true! It is an amazing way of eating and of life really. My sister in law (needs to lose weight) has IBS, high blood pressure, but she thinks Atkins is like a "cult" diet. First thing she said when my husband told her about the hernia was-"now you can't do Atkins", I told her this was not the case. She thinks I'm nuts and since I let my kids (who were borderline heavy and are now quite slim) eat in a low carbohydrate way-possibly a child abuser. She keeps bringing sugary junk over because "they are only kids once". I keep throwing it away because my kids don't want it anyway. She keeps talking about the balanced diet (pyramid) and how it is much healthier to eat pasta three or four times a week than to eat meat.

Ditto to what Char said. Going against the grain diet-wise is a tough gig but this WOL is so worth it that I'd never give it up. Congratulations on your great physical, it just proves that you are doing the right thing. As for your SIL, keep on throwing that junk out. Too bad she's so against LC, I know it eliminated my IBS almost overnight. Esther
