Does anyone else feel the same? I was weighing myself daily (I know not needed) then locked it away for that TOM. But now it is time to check in and I am frightened!
I did not lose more than a half an inch this week and I am fine with that.
I am currently the same weight that I was when I got married 7 years ago. I am just scared (although I know it is irrational).
Does this make any sense at all?

Amy G,

That makes perfect sense. It sounds alot like me, especially lately. I use to have to weigh myself ever single day, until I hit a stall (which WONT go away) and now i'm paranoid about weighing myself and I dont really want to. I started seriously working out at the gym (1 hour a day, 4 days a week) and I can tell that my body is changing for the better, so thats what I'm going by now. Weight, like age, is just a number. My body knows its in the best shape of its life and I still weigh 190lbs!! Oh well though...I'm happy!

If you measure yourself every couple weeks or so, it will be much more fufilling than stepping on a scale everday to have it flucuate and frustrate.

Good luck Amy!!

One of the best pieces of advice I could ever give is to weigh yourself once a week at the same time under the same circumstances.

For me, it was Sunday mornings after the restroom and shower trip.

I just made it part of my routine. It's certainly more encouraging than weighing every day and seeing the daily fluctuations of water retention.

I know exactly what you mean. One of the reasons I weigh in daily is so that there are no suprises for me. If I were to wait all week to weigh in and then find on weigh in day that my weight was up instead of down, well, I'm afraid that for me, this could lead to dire consequences. Meaning:

"I was so good all week and where did it get me".

I would lose my motivation. Somehow, checking every morning keeps me well informed, honest and clean in my eating and I don't 'live' for the one day a week where I hope to see results. I don't expect to see results daily. I just went 2 full weeks with no changes in the scale. I was not depressed or concerned about it because I 'knew' it wasn't moving and I wasn't 'hoping' it would.

Does that make sense?

I've said before that this scale issue is totally a YMMV thing. For most people weighing in daily would drive them nuts. For some of us it keeps us sane.

Oh I hate my scale, and yet at the same time I can't not get on it. Then when I don't lose or god forbid if I gain I'm mad at THE SCALE not myself lol. How strange is that? lol

I have a friend who was so mad when she weighed herself that she beat the scale into the floor. Just pieces left. I weigh myself every day also, don't need extra surprises and if I have gained then I can be extra careful.

ok, I managed to will myself to get on. I did lose 2 pounds. But it is weird. I read DANDR and understand why we lose weight eating this way. I just have not come to "grips" with the fact that I can eat like this and still lose.
Somehow during the course of the last 12 or so years I just became comfortable in my own fat. How strange it feels to be losing.

i have a fear of the darn scale, too. april, mary kay and i have agreed to wait a month until the next weigh in. like april told me, if we have our plan in place - there's no way we can mess up or gain ...
if we wait a month, we avoid the frustration of daily fluctuations.
this would/could be just a one time challenge ...
we're checking in on 3/19!
