I have mixed emotions with so many people jumping on the lowcarb way of eating. I CAN'T FIND THE FOODS I WANT!!!!! The shelves for lowcarb tortillias are always bare since subway introduced their wraps. Sigh...After working my 4th 12 hour day I went in search of and came up with ziltch. I returned to my truck muttering about all the newbies and grousing about the food manufacturers supply, than I managed to get the blame on the government ( hey I was exhausted and at the time it made sense) and their stupid pyramid thats practically upside down and finally laid the blame on President Bush where it rightfully belonged. LOL I managed to keep the dark cloud over my head until I got some sleep.

Anyway I thought it was a funny story and wanted to share.

But I STILL WANT SOME LOWCARB WRAPS!!!!!!!!

Funny, I had that same frustration a few weeks ago when a local store was out of wraps. Fortunately, one of the other stores had them, but for a moment there I was worried!

do the low carb tortillas freeze well? i know i have two different kinds.. some kinda herb one.. and one garlic one.. and i bought them a couple weeks ago.. always careful to ziplock... they still taste great.. i have heated one on the stovetop and quickly added butter on them (seems to help the taste and not get dried out) and add strips of chicken that i saute' in butter and FRANKS HOT SAUCE.. man.. that stuff ROCKS!! anywho.. makes a nice little dinner.. i make enough chicken to put in fridge and grab out a few pieces to micro and munch on when i get a need for somethin..:-)

anywho.. the upshot of this long post was.. if they DO freeze well.. i will be buying several packages to keep in freezer so i wont run out when the LCS leave the shelves bare at the store.. i live in a VERY small town.. only two grocery stores.. only ONE carries the tortillas..

yes, they do freeze very well. And when you find them, buy a bunch, it's your turn. I go to a store to get Torani Syrups and the last time I went in there, they had gotten some s/f chocolate, but were out of it because a man bought the ENTIRE case, how selfish.

But I found some davinci chocolate at our newest local LC store, Good Carbs. I only bought 1 bottle, and left some for others, but that's just me.

becki,
although i understand your frustration, i hope that you are happy for us "newbies" who have recently discovered this fabulous WOE. you were lucky (and wise!) to jump on the bandwagon before low carb became "mainstream" and "popular."
but i hope that the veterans don't think poorly of us that have joined recently ... i am so happy on this WOE, and i have appreciated all of your support.
anyway, good luck finding your LC tortillas in the future ... perhaps the next time we encounter an empty shelf we can be excited and proud of all the newbies adopting this healthy way of life!

C, we LOVE newbies!!!! One of the reasons I am here is to help newbies find the right way to do LC. I like the support I get, but I get much more out of helping out newbies. It does my heart good to see new "faces" around here.

At some point I would like to get the lc wraps but I dont see them around these parts. Can anyone tell me if these contain soy in them? I cant eat soy so I am not sure if they are all made with soy or not. Thanks!

Blessings,

Carol

Carol, the La Tortilla Factory ones do contain soy, not sure about other brands though.

I, for one, am happy when I see low stocks of LC stuff - that just means to me that it's MOVING and maybe the store manager will get the picture and stock MORE and MORE LC products!

I had a moment of frustration when trying to buy my Soy Slender a few weeks ago and there were only 2 left on the shelf - but I got a rain check, since they were on sale, so no biggie - at least I wasn't totally out of it!

The more LC folks the merrier, IMHO!

I went to a smaller independent store today and found so many Atkins allowed foods.

I found the low carb tortillas (FINALLY) I bought 3 packs, 2 for me and one for my bf. I got 2 types of the atkins ice creams, the bars (I haven't tried them yet), and veggies, a rotisserie chicken but no diet rite I do diet hansens if I want soda or diet rite. Of course the pork rinds and the eggs. Oh and half and half for creamer. I got home and was so excited about the tortillas, I made a quesadilla I haven't had one in ages, I'm hispanic so tortillas are a staple I had some of the chicken and the quesadilla for lunch and I am sooooo satisfied. I am beginning to see more and more low carb foods in stores, I love it, it makes this so much easier !

I know I have been frustrated with Wal-Mart on my last two visits. At the beginning of the year, they had all kinds of low-carb products and now, there's hardly anything. I was very excited when they started carrying the Diet Rite soda though. That stuff is wonderful!

My fiance and I tried the wraps at subway and they were great. My only problem with them is that thye're not big enough for what you play for them. It costs me almost $7 CDN for a wrap that is way too small to fill me up.

The trouble is that you can;t buy the low carb wraps anywhere in Canada yet. Does anyone live in western New York or Buffalo area know of a good store?

Jenabee. You might want to check a few health food stores for low carb tortillas, they have been in Kamllops for just over a year now. However their availablity is limited so I went to "latortillafactory.com" and ordered a case (10 packages of 10)sent directly to my house. They stay good in the freezer and cost about $72 canadian for the case, but I am good for tortillas for a while as I try not to use them too much. Oh and by the way, at Subway you can make any 6" sub a wrap for an extra 80 cents so there are cheaper and bigger options available. I find the cold cut trio is almost too much for me and it is less than 5$.

Thanks for the info, Ron. I will try that the next time I go to Subway. Believe it or not, I have not been able to find one health food store in Toronto that sells low carb tortillas. i've checked everywhere.

Maybe I'll check out latortilla factory.

Thans for the info.

J.
