DH and I went to a restaurant last night which is new to us. Of course, the ubiquitous bread basket headed straight for us - I said to the waiter, "No bread, thanks!" and he says, "Oh are you doing Atkins?" We affirmed that indeed we were - he says, "EVERYONE is eating that way now!"

I just love it when a restaurant is aware of what's going on - he offered us extra veggies in place of any starchy stuff.

'Course at the end of the meal, he wanted to bring us dessert - I asked if they had anything low-carb and he said, "Creme Brulee!" Uh, I don't THINK so....with all that caramelized sugar on top????

At least they got it MOSTLY right!

It's amazing that so many people don't seem to connect that sugar = high carb or that trying to lose weight = no sugar.

DH has been a type I diabetic since his early teens. 20-30 years ago it was next to impossible to find sugar free foods. Once another couple invited us for dinner but wanted to be sure that DH could eat something so the wife asked me what to fix for dinner. I told her he could eat just about anything as long as it didn't have sugar in it. Well, the dinner was wonderful and she was so excited because she'd made a sugar free apple pie for desert, had tasted it and thought it had turned out really well. She was telling us all about how she made it as she was setting it on the table. That's when we all noticed that it had sugar sprinkled all over the top crust of the pie. It was such a habit for her to finish her apple pie that was way that she didn't think about it.

HOnestly... the whole country is going low carb and I'm loving it! It's getting so much easier to go out to dinner with friends and family and not have to worry about there being nothing but salad to eat. Applebee's restaurants... ponderosa... even some of the upscale places around Cleveland are giving the LCE alternatives... it's so awesome!

That is great news! Although I still got a confused look last week when I told a waiter no potato - of any kind!

There is a restaurant here in Toronto that recently opened up and it offers menu items with specific carb counts for Atkins dieters, gluten free things, Zone meals, etc. I can;t remember the name of it but aparently the food is incredible, although quite small. I'l have to ttake a trip down to Bloor St and check it out!

The more we make it known that LC is here to stay, the more places are going to want to cater to us. I am very verbal about it and don't even mind people trying to refute this WOL. I have a comeback for all of them. They just can't win an argument with me. I'm armed with knowledge, so bring it on. So I have the confidence to talk to anyone about it, even waitstaff. Okay, I might be an evangelist, but hey, we have to educate, right?
