Is it normal to get tired easily in the beginning of this diet? We're a couple of weeks past induction now. Does it improve as you're able to add more & more carbs? It just seems like I get tired more easily right now and sometimes shaky even though I eat a little something with protein every 3-4 hrs. (esp. since I'm hypoglycemic). Just wondered if this was normal or if I'm weird!

Mom, make sure you've gotten doctor's permission for a LC WOE. You are doing the right thing by eating protein every 3-4 hrs., since you're hypoglycemic. Eat plenty of good veggies, you'll be allowing yourself good carbs. Add some raw veggies or nuts with your protein snack. Take care~ Susan LCE Member since 01/02

I'm a month into this WOE and I've found that while I'm awake, I'm more energetic and more alert than before, but when I get tired, it hits like a ton of bricks. However, I'm also sleeping less and having a better quality of sleep. --------------------------- Cows eat grass. Lions eat meat. Decide which body you want.

Yeah, I've noticed that when I get tired I really feel wiped out! Yesterday, I was doing a bunch of copying (tax returns) at work. I've noticed that if I stand a lot (like around 1 1/2 hrs or more) then it really wipes me out! And when it's time to eat I can feel my blood sugar dropping fast and need to eat on time. I've kept pecans with me and can usually make that 1/4 cup/1 carb last all day, just nibbling on them a few at a time when I need them. My hypoglycemia may be part of the problem too. But on the other hand, as I recall low carb diet is supposed to help make my pancreas be not as stressed, & since it already doesn't work right anymore, the diet should be good for it. When I first went hypoglycemic & cut back on sugar, etc. it took a while for it to become stable, so I'm wondering if it will just take a while for it to become stable again. My husband has noticed some of the same things that I have (to a lesser degree) and he's not hypoglycemic but since I am, mine is probably amplyfied.

Nibbling on the nuts is perfect for your hypoglycemia. Another consideration is low potassium. Since this WOE can be a bit of a diuretic, sometimes your potassium can get too low. Low potassium = feeling pooped. Try eating potassium rich foods like spinach 2-3 times a week and see if you don't feel better. LCE member since March 2002

You know, I had been eating my salads with spinach leaves instead of lettuce & this past week had eaten lettuce instead. I'll start eating it with spinach in there again and see if it improves. I believe it was worse this past week so maybe that's why. Hubby & I will both try that--thanks again! |
