I think I wrote about my one male friend a few weeks ago, trying to figure out why he was not having success with this WOL. I guessed that he was eating too many carbs, plus he never bothered to read the books. He figured since he lived at home, and his parents were doing it, he would just follow suit. Well, after this weekend, I pretty much gave up on him.

I met some friends over the weekend, including him. While he did cut way back on the amount of carbs he ate previously to this WOE, he consistently ate too many carbs, and the wrong type, such as pita bread, yeast rolls, tortilla chips (ok I was guilty of that too!), and so on. His excuse was that he was not going to worry about what he ate over the weekend. I guess I was a bit baffled, as I have found this WOL very easy to do anywhere. This compared to my old WW diet, where usually when I did travel or go on vacation I would "cheat". I could not understand his need to cheat.

I guess he is simply still not ready to do what it takes to lose his extra weight. It is frustrating because he really needs to lose. Yet, I cannot hold his hand. Maybe one day!!

Robin, your concern is commendable, and shows how much you care.....

I'm in the same position with my dearest friend of 20 years. I've had to let go and accept that she is not ready for this woe and may never be. People really do have the right of self-determination, so all I can do is be the best example I can, and be ready if and when she is.

I agree with Brenda. Also when he's really ready to do something about his weight - He Will! You know that switch that clicks in your mind that turns on your determination to do something positive. He'll get that some day. Have faith. Meanwhile do everything you can to encourage him by example.

Low carbing isn't for everyone. A friend of mine, seeing my success (back when I had lost 45 lbs.), wanted to try it and asked me all kinds of questions, but also never read the book, but still, I answered all I could.

He biggest questions were what can I eat, and everything I said, she said she hated.
You can eat broccoli, "I hate that"
You can eat salads with real dressing, "Oh, I hate salads."
You can eat cabbage, "I hate cabbage."
And so on... you get the picture. The only thing she did like was bacon and eggs. She tried the diet for one day. Said she tried to eat a salad but hated it...

Anyhow, she went to weigh watchers a few weeks after that and has lost a whole lot of weight. She MEASURES her french fries (literally, with a tape measure) but she's at goal now.
