A friend told me the other day about Great Harvest Low Carb bread, and I wondered if any of you have tried it? I bought some today, and it's excellent. I don't know if it will kick me out of ketosis, but it doesn't seem to bother my blood sugar. I'm hoping I'll be able to use it, because it tastes like the real thing. Better than.

The ingredients are whole-wheat flour, vital wheat gluten, honey, tofu, flax seeds, wheat bran, olive oil, eggs, oat bran, oats, yeast and salt. It has 8 grams carbs minus 2 fiber, for 6 net carbs. 60 calories a slice. Four grams of protein and 2 of the carbs are sugars. None of that sounds too bad.

I haven't tried that kind. I found Lifestyle Bread that I like and it has 4 net carbs per slice. So far it has not affected ketosis, but I try to not eat it every day. I tried one of the 3 carb buns tonight by O'soLo. It was pretty good (was the sourdough flavor).

Terra
Are the slices regular size or really thin?
Just curious since I see honey near the beginning of the ingredient list. That's the only thiong that worries me about this bread.

As I said, there are 2 grams of sugar. But I think that isn't a very large amount. The slices are um, 28 grams, I think. I'll have to look it up. They're normal thickness, just a bit smallish in diameter. I won't be eating it every day, but it's nice to have a bread I can eat when I really want some.

I think they could make it w/o the honey and it would still be good.

I think I remember reading that they put just enough honey in to activate the yeast. It is a very tiny amount for the whole loaf but I can't remember the exact amount.

By my calculations, it's less than a quarter cup of honey per loaf. That's not very much. At any rate, if they're going to sweeten it, at least honey isn't as processed as sugar.
