Here's my dilemna--been doing Atkins faithfully...down 31 pounds (yeah!) 39 to go ( I can do it!) exercising like mad-walking, Tae kwnon do, exercise tapes-feeling committed to getting healthy and in shape walked 7 miles on Sunday-then fell down basement stairs carryung laundry--broke my ankle--sigh...now I can do nothing for exercise for 8-12 weeks and feel very depressed about meeting weight loss/health goals...,any ideas on exercise with a cast and with leg elevated? any positive thoughts to make me feel better...so far I came up with two: at least I haven't cheated in the 4 days since it happened usually I would upon being depressed. and it would be even harder on crutches if I was 30 pounds heavier..got anything else I sure could use the boost

I think just gettin around will be exercise with a cast on. Also, sticking to the diet will continue your weight loss wether you are working out or not! {{{Hugs}}} Good luck all!! Seesko 242/226/135 "What my mind can envision; my body can master!"

| Hi Lori Ann, Sorry about the ankle. But great going on your ongoing weight loss!! My DH had a broken foot and torn ligaments last summer. Listen to your doctor.I will probably be repeating what your doctor has told you. Stay off your foot as much as possible and keep it elevated. During the healing process it is very important to keep the swelling down. It is to prevent blood clots from forming and the ankle swelling to the point that circulation is cut off. My DH, in order to maintain some level of fitness, figured he was able to at least work his abs with crunches and to work his arms with handweights while keeping his leg elevated. The most important thing is to stick with this WOE and you can at least continue to lose or at worst maintain your weight during your recuperation. Don't give up. We are here to cheer you on. | Oh, what a shame about the ankle! I hope it doesn't hurt too much. I'd second sticking to your healthy eating, and finding some exercise that you can do. Pilates on a mat at home might be an option...you could skip any exercises that require your legs. The basic stomach routine, for example, might work with the cast. Good luck! |

You might want to check out the Body Flex thread and see whether that's of interest...it's non weight-bearing, and will help you stay flexible and strong while you recover. Amazingly, it whittles away the inches, too. You can get the tapes via ebay for under $10. Best wishes, Sky 186/144/under 150

Here is a tip on wonderfull exersize lay on the floor w/ your feet proped up on your couch (hence the elevation) hold your hands behind your head and crunch away...after a few days of crunches like that take your hands and place them on your lower abdomonal area to encourage the muscules there to work. I do this all the time after 2 c-sections my lower abs need TONS of work.. work on what you can and just rember to stick to it hun you can do it! Sorry to hear about your anckle...<<<<<<comfort>>&g t;>>>> 01/02/04-248 01/23/04-243 02/12/04-226 02/18/04-221
