Personally, I wouldn't want to try anything that interrupts what my body does naturally, unless it was prescribed by my physician. And even then, she would have to explain thoroughly the reasons why she feels it would be beneficial to my health. Also, on the WOE, we only give our bodies a minimal number of carbs and they are from veggies, fruits, and nuts. So why would we want to take something that "blocks" our bodies from utilizing the nutrients available in these? JMHO

I tried them one evening when I had Chinese food as a birthday treat. I still ate pretty well and drank all my water, but started feeling sick later that evening, and by the next morning I was miserable! Bloated, headache, flu-like symptoms, which, if I didn't start drinking water like a banchee, would have stuck with me alot longer (I think!).

So, I still have the rest of the package in my cabinet. I don't know why I keep them, I don't ever want to try THAT again, but I did spend $14.99 on the dratted bottle - LOL!!!

My advise - DON'T EVEN TRY THEM!!! It's not worth it, unless you like the tired, sick generally yucky feeling you'll get. AND I didn't notice any benefit (if you know what I mean!).

Lan-

This was not "true" chinese food - upscale novue (sp?) American/Chinese - no msg, little sodium, no breading of any kind. But I did have a small taste of the rice with my brocolli shrimp (steamed). So I don't think it was the "chinese" food (I've eaten foods like this since then with none of the above "problems"), I KNOW it was the Carb Cutter pills I took just before the meal. I'm just explaining how they affect me, not sure if anyone else has experienced the same thing, but I don't think they are worth experimenting with IMHO.

I'm so glad I found this post. I was going to order some carb blockers off of e-bay after payday. I guess I'm not now. Thanks for the Info.

AT the risk of being shunned for cheating, I will mention again that I have tried these (phase 2) a couple of times and they do work. Make sure you take them ahead of time with a glass of water. Also they are only starch blockers, they have no effect on sugar.

I think they are OK for the very occasional treat or for restaurant that does not have a good low carb offering.

it's ok road king... I'll take a position right next to you! LOL

I to have these carb blockers.. but I take them only once and while. Heck the bottle isn't even a quarter of the way gone and I have had them since last june! I have never had any problems with it nor has my DH so far, but it's not to say that some one else wouldn't.

The stuff that is in it acctually comes from a bean called phaseolus vulgaris. It neutralizes the starches.

IMHO I think that this is something that if used should not be taken all the time. If you start to rely on these then your not learning how to eat right.. just learning how to "cheat the system" so as to speak!

Road King,
How can you tell they worked?? I guess unless you know you ate tons of carbs, like a pizza with carrot cake for dessert, and saw no change over the next few days you could assume they did. But for the average restaurant meal??

RaveRevue,

I know I can't answer for road king, but how I know they work is how much "water weight" I gain or do not gain after eating HC stuff. If I go off on a HC meal, I typicaly gain between 5 - 7 lbs by the next morning. If I use the phase 2 then I might not gain anything or at the most 2-3 lbs. Of course this just depends on how much of what I am eating is sugar. Cause those don't block sugar... just starch.

The first time I just took one right before eating it didn't work. The next day I was out of Ketosis and felt very sick. Then I read the dierctions again. The next times I took them 15-30 minutes befoe eating with a full glass of water and the next day I felt fine and stayed in ketosis. So I feel that if I am staying in ketosis they are working. Yes I will eat a whole pizza, but not the carrot cake as that has sugar.

However I am in a long stall and haven't tried them for a few weeks. I am sure they were working way before I went into the stall and I do not feel they triggered it.

a friend of mine took these and it just gave her severe intestinal problems (if you know what I mean). Also, it seems to me that it gives you permission to eat badly. I don't think I could bring myself to use them.

Good luck all!!
