| I've been out of town a few times since starting this way of eating, and I have some thoughts about things that might make it easier. It wasn't hard to find meals that I could eat--if you eat in a cafe or restaurant there's always something. But dessert is the hard part. If you want something sweet, unless you're eating at one of the rare places that makes LC dessert, you're out of luck. What I did last time was get some frozen berries at the store, and mix with sour cream and Splenda. Just mushed it up in the cups hotels provide. So I think I'll make a travel kit to keep in the car--Atkins shakes, Splenda packets, a cream whipper, maybe some nuts. I hate being out and not having a good choice, and I won't go off plan. We went for a long drive yesterday, and I was glad there was a Subway in the small town we stopped at for lunch. The only other options were other fast food places. The wrap was really good, too. I was amused when we stopped at a truck stop, and they had ads there advertising low carb dinners! You know it's mainstream when truckers are eating that way. I also found boiled eggs there, which made a good snack.Later that day (it was a long day) my husband stopped to get coffee at a little kiosk and I ordered an Italian soda. I got it with sugar free syrup. The man was just handing it to me, and he said, oh, it does have a little bit of sugar in it. I said, "What?" He said, we make the Italian sodas with 7-up instead of club soda. I told him I couldn't have any sugar. He found a bottle of club soda and made me a sugar free one, but I was a bit astonished that they make them with 7-up. A "little bit" of sugar? So it's important to not assume things, I guess. Always ask if you're not sure. |
