ok, i do sometimes like to snack on pork rinds ... but i limit them.

anyway, i was re-reading atkins last nite and came across this statement again:

"...a convenience food that sounds terribly fatty but, in fact, contains nearly none. those are the maximizers of crispiness, fried pork rinds -- the zero carb consolation prize for [chip] addicts. virtually all the fat has been rendered off, leaving you w/ the protein matrix that held the pork together."

um, am i missing something here? all of the pork rinds i've ever seen contain quite a bit of fat. the ones i just bought have 5g fat/serving (50 g in the whole bag).

i realize we're not watching fat here, but i still like to monitor how much i take in each day. so do pork rinds contain fat -- or no?

very confused!

This is just my opinion, but I think perhaps both statements are correct to a certain degree...meaning....in relation to chips that have 8-10 and more fat grams, 5 fat grams is relatively low for that type of snack.
I know I would choose the rinds over chips because of the carb and fat both when compared to regular chips. But again...MHO

shelley, thanks for the response ... but not quite clear on your interpretation. do you mean that atkins is saying that in comparison to chips, pork rinds have nearly no fat?
not sure about that ...
i was never a big chip person ... i just like pork rinds once in a while for the crunch. (b/c i sometimes miss popcorn!)
but i would never think of choosing chips at any time.
anyone else understand this contradiction from my original post? every bag of pork rinds i've ever seen indicates that each serving contains a lot of fat. atkins says none.
confused!

As far as I know, pork rinds are fat. Perhaps it was refering to trans fat?
