On Monday it was my bday...anyhow...my eldest son came over for my bday to cook me supper...ohhhhh dear what im i going to say to him...he knows i changed the way i eat but he just wanted to make me happy and wanted me to have the night off of cooking...so he comes over with his gf and decided to cook PASTA! ohhhhhhhhhhhhh help...havent had that for MONTHS! being italian trust me its hard like? right you took the words right out of my typing..lol..so he makes this nice tomatoe sauce with italian sauciages...that was ok so far...then he decides to make alfredo sauce too..that was ok too...now im thinking...how on earth can you say NO to you child when they want to make you happy? i couldnt..so ended up taking a bit of pasta and tried to stick to the meat and sauce...

then my other son the youngest one 15yrs old...bought a chocolate mousse cake with a crust made out of pecans and all...OH DEAR...he worked with his dad all week during his spring break and saved up money and took some of it and bought me a cake..he was all happy and proud of himself cause it was the first time he went out on his own to do that...so what do you want ME to say...i didnt want to disappoint neither of them cause it was truly their first time they did something on their own...i had a THIN slice...like 1/2 inch thick of that cake..

the next day i felt so weird...i felt bloated, like sick...i didnt say anything cause it was part of my fault...being a mother and very protective, a mother hen and worked with teens for over 10yrs, how on earth can i say NO to 2 great sons that went out of their way?

ok, i got a weak spot...so be it..today my body is back on track and i feel good...went back on track the falling day and back to my weight...

all this to say, dont kill yourself if someone is doing a good deed and is proud doing it for you...especially your kids...just get back on track next day and you will do just fine...

ciao

Happy Birthday!

Just let it be one day, get back on track and drink lots of water. Consider it was a very special ocassion with special circumstances. Times like this come along, after all, this is a way of life for us. Maybe now that it's behind you, before long you can explain to your family how much their good intentions were appreciated. BUT, next time do something that doesn't involve food, OR better yet, suggest that you would like to give them a simple menu and let them cook for you. Maybe steak and salad! Just an idea.

Sounds like they really love Mom!

OH Lanny!

This is why it's always a good thing to explain very thorughly to the people who love you what this woe is about. But I think any mom would have done the same. It's only one day.

Kumus, you wrote: Maybe now that it's behind you...

Well yes its behind me...not as if i made a big deal out of it that night...maybe its because i only have 15lbs to lose...maybe it would of upsetted me more if i had a lot to lose...it was up to me to say yes or no..they both know how i eat..but their kids...they just wanted to do something nice for mom...i eat steak and salad all year round...i do drink a gallon of water a day and it does bring you back on track...

the post was mostly to let others out there not to be discourage if you fall off the wagon and you can get back on track and continue...like kumus said, its only a one day thing...

hang in there guys

Lanny,

I agree with the above.
While it *might* have helped if your sons/family knew in advance *how* you are eating now, it IS only one day. And that is SO sweet!
I don't think I could have said no, either, and I don't even like pasta!
Just drink a ton of water this week and DON'T STEP ON THE SCALE!!!!
Get right back on track like nothing happened...

And maybe in a few weeks, kind of mention to your family the details of this woe... I mean, if this is going to be a "way of life" they need to hear it sometime, right?

But for now, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

Lanny - what great kids you have! Thanks for letting us know how it all worked out. Good for you - you handled it great. I learned from your story .

What sweet boys. Obviously you raised them well and they know how to treat a lady!

Maybe next year you can suggest a special dinner out at a restaurant...tell them that way no one has to cook! And you can control what you order! That's what we did for my BD this year and even though my family had surprise cake come over to the table, it was one piece (split 6 ways) so I hardly tasted it!

And happy birthday!

Lanny,
Being the mom of 2 boys myself (although they are much younger) I think I would have done the same thing that you did. I would have enjoyed what they did for me and then made up the difference for a few days.
I think what they did was very sweet...even if not what you would eat now, they did know what you like- or used to like. and just wanted to make you happy!
Happy birthday to you!
