I thought some of you on Atkins, might be interested to know that the Science correspondent of one UK paper, The Guardian, although sceptical, is going on the Atkins Diet. He's going to be monitored as he does it.

There's a message forum about the whole thing here, at the below url, with standard low-carb knocking going on there.

Atkins has done me a lot of good so it's still frustrating to see how rabid some of those who oppose it get.

Gary, if you have the reporter's email address, why don't you email him about this forum? (I wouldn't post the info on that message board because of the bashers.) It's one thing to think you're doing Atkins correctly; it's quite another to have support and actually do Atkins correctly. I sincerely hope he's read the book and not just going by what he thinks Atkins is.

In a way it could be good news. If he really sticks to it, depite being a sceptic, he IS going to see positive results.

Unless, of course, he wimps out with some intangible like: "It put me in a bad mood/made me weak all the time".

But I have little doubt it will work for him, whatever his attitude.

Hi Brightlady

I'll try to find out his email address and do that.

Usually their reporters do have contact addresses on their web page, but for some reason he does not.

His original article is here.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/life/atkin...156075,00.html

He does at least seem to know about Atkins Nutritionals UK web-site.

Hi, Gary P from one of my favorite city in the world, Hong Kong
I read the article in the Guardian, and in the
atkins-uk.com,a very nice and informative site that our members might want to look at. Very good article about "VEGETABLES" so the reporter at the Guardian should be able to do well if he stays informed.
How are doing on this program? are you able to follow it without difficulty in Hong Kong? the food is so glorious there. So fresh, so wonderful.

Hi Rainbow

I've been low-carb for a year and a half. Took off more than 20lbs very easily, which took me from around 205lbs down to just over 180. That's still higher than I want at 5' 9", but it really seems to be a sticking point. My liking for wine probably has a lot to do with it. I've just gained again because of our annual festive whammy. We get Christmas, the Western New Year, then Lunar New Year, all of which have got hi-carb temptations. Not only that, I followed Chinese new year up by going back to the UK, and then taking a trip to Venice. And who is going to go to Italy without eating at least a little great (carby) food?

There's a superb selection of food here in Hong Kong of course. It's easy to simply not eat rice with Chinese meals and concentrate on the accompanying dishes, but you have to watch out for the fact that Chinese cooks like to add sugar to a lot of dishes, including simple vegetable ones. Even roast-pork has a honey glaze. My girl-friend's mum often cooks for us and goes out of her way to keep dishes low-carb, which is nice.

I find Japanese food pretty good for low-carbing. And, far from Asian, Dan Ryans is a god-send. It's always easy to go for buffalo chicken wings, chicken strips, or a caesar - or other - salad there. I just have to keep my hands off the bread.
