I have been eating some frozen berries each night with walnuts and whipped heavy cream.

First question: Is this too sweet to be eating before bed?

Second question: What berries are allowed? I have been buying a bag of frozen mixed berries...two that I have never heard of before along with strawberries.

I have not changed my diet any expect for adding the berries/nuts/cream at night.

Thanks
Kristin

Kristin,
Nuts, berries, and cream all are acceptable LC foods. If you are past induction, then you're ok, but remember the carbs can sneak up easily. As before bed, many people choose to limit eating to within 3 hours of bedtime. Other folks must have a bedtime snack to sleep soundly or to keep their tummy happy.

Strawberries are great low glycemic berries. Look for ones with lots of fiber- straw, black, etc. Frozen are fine, fresh even tastier!

Trial and error is the best way. If you find your weight loss slows or stops, you may need to look at your snacks.

I mainly stick to strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries...yum! I measure them out careful so I don't overdo.

I don't know about the timing...if you're not having a problem with it, then I wouldn't worry. I have mine early in the day just in case, but I havn't tested out the effect of having them out night...I also like starting the day with fruit (old habits die hard!)

Enjoy!

I've been sticking with strawberries & blackberries, sometimes a little bit of watermellon (1/4 cup=2.6 carbs), & once in a while cantalope (1/4 cup=3 carbs). Honeydew melon is 3.6 carbs for 1/4 cup & raspberries 1.5 carbs for 1/4 cup.

Kristin, since you are also having energy issues, I would advise you not to have any carbs at all (including berries) without having some protein and a little fat with them. If the reason for your energy loss is unstable blood sugar, eating carbs by themselves can cause a spike and crash. Adding protein will help moderate that process. If I were to just eat berries and cream at night, I would wake up with absolutely no energy and probably brain fog in the morning.....

I'd also not eat more than 1/4-1/3 cup of berries at a time, again with protein and a little fat. When I have berries or melon, I generally choose to have it as a carb with a meal, and have a less high GI carb with protein and a little fat for an evening snack.
