I paid a premium price for a container of this bake mix ($12) and I sure hope it's worth it. I wanted some feedback from the pros before I start using it.

The recipe for pancakes on the back of the container looks easy enough, but what other tricks do you all use to make a better pancake? And what "syrup" options are there? The Atkins brand syrup had the look and consistancy of iced tea, which is not really what I want to put on my pancakes.

I have not tried the Atkins Bake mix, but have some of the CarbSense. So far, have only used it to mix with porkskins as a breading. Hope to try something more adventurous soon. I did try the Atkins pancake mix and it is not the greatest.

As for syrup, the Atkins is thin and very sweet tasting to me. I like the Walden Farms, which is 0 carb, 0 calorie.

In my opinion, the Atkins bake mix is terrible. I tried to use it for pancakes, which were about the worse things I've ever tasted and for various other things like breading and even a cake. It just wasnt good tasting or have the right consistancy for anything I tried to make. I still have half a canister of it sitting in the kitchen, which will probably go to waste. Maybe its just me though. Maybe someone else knows how to make it taste good!

I have yet to hear of anyone liking the Atkins Bake Mix. That's why I have never invested in buying it.
My father bought some, and everything he made was terrible. Waste of money, so he said.
Most people that bought it were at least able to use it as breading for fried chicken and such.
Maybe you still have time to return it if you haven't opened it yet. $12 is a lot to spend on a product you will probably only use once.

I made cookies with it, and they weren't very good. I think I'll have to be more desperate before I make something else.

If you want to save some money...

Faux Atkins Bake Mix

1 cup soy flour
2 cups soy protein isolate
2 tablespoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons Splenda

Sift together then store and use as you would Dr. A's. It's much cheaper and things come out about the same.

3 carbs per 1/2 cup serving

I have used it successfully for breading chicken and fish for frying. Other than that, I've yet to be able to make anything very good out of it. For breading, just mix in the spices, salt, pepper, etc., that you prefer, then use milk and/or egg to moisten your item, dip in the bake mix, and fry.

Like you, I bought a can hoping for the best. I won't buy another one once I manage to use this one up.

I have not tried this mix, but have tried pancake mix from another company and it was made with almond meal. It was really good.

Anyways.. I'll get to the point. If it tasts that awefull I would do 1 of 2 things because the stuff is so expensive. I would take it back to where I bought it even if it was open or there should be a number on the product. I would call that and tell them how aweful it is and demand you want your money back. Ususally if one don't work then the other will.

I make my own like ThinJen...wouldnt dare spend that money for a box or any Atkins product...here in canada his box of brownies which really taste great is 8$...i think you have to be logic when it comes to spend your pesos...spend wisely and make your own meals from scratch as much as you can...i do that and im discovering all sorts of things you can mix and match...especially me, im not into can goods nor boxes..dont have much as cans in my cupboard execpt for tuna..i do all from scratch...

A few days ago they were showing on tv all sorts of carb products and had 3 people tasting it and giving their opinions...it was funny...they all loved the apple sauce and the brownies...the chips was a big no no, the beer too...they said it was like water and the muffin box mix they can use it as a hockey puck..lol..so i think we can all learn to save and do our own...

i do my muffins with the fault atkins mix, make a big batch and freeze them so i can have one everymorning in the car with my coffee while going to work...

I must play the devil's advocate and say that I do like Atkins bake mix on occasion...the orange cranberry bread recipe in the recipe section of DANDR is YUMMY and uses the mix...it takes awhile to make but I love it.

I haven't tried it because nobody seems to like it... but I do like Smuckers sugar free breakfast syrup... rich and thick... has 8 carbs for 1/4 cup... also Vermont has one , sugar free.. not so rich and thick, but ok.. has 4 carbs.
