My 2 cents...this just makes it more difficult for us LCer's to justify our way of life. I mean, I have a hard enough time "defending" my WOE to close friends and some family members. This just CHEAPENS our WOE to those who are unenlightened about it to begin with.

How am I supposed to provide quality information to friends who could benefit from this WOE when they already think all I eat is MEAT and CHEESE? They always snidly tell me "oh that cheese is really high in fat and it will make me fatter". But the "high fat" cheese has somehow melted 21 lbs. from my body?!

AARRGGHHH!

Sorry for the GRIPE!

Ok, I guess I have to post it. I live in Krispy Kreme country and work in the city where Krispy Kreme started. They are delicious -- but not something anyone would want all the time. The lemon filled are my favorite, but I did not eat them except on rare occasions. If they can come up with a low carb version, then wonderful, fantastic, supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!!!!!

Guess if you grew up around them and they have always been there, you have a different viewpoint. Krispy Kreme has done a lot of charitable work for our communities. They are a great company and I see this as a very positive response for low carbers and this wol.

I have had "sugar free doughnuts" from the health store and if Krispy Kreme can preserve some of the flavor, Halleleujah!

Hi everyone -
Just my two cents here, whenever I see products suddenly going LC, my first thought is they are doing it for people who have not really made the effort towards a healthier lifestyle, but are trying to trick themselves into thinking they are -- Maybe the way I am wording this does not make any sense. I guess my example would be my mom who is miserable in her weight right now. She will say she needs to lose weight because she feels awful, cannot fit into her clothes, etc. Then, she will buy some snacks such as twizzlers, etc. that say "No Fat!" and justify it to herself. Down deep, I have to believe she knows this stuff is all sugar and not good for her, but it makes her feel better that it is labeled "No Fat." This is what I feel about the Krispy Kremes. Again, just my two cents.

I totally agree Suzanne!! Will the influx of "Low Carb" junk ever cease!
Why does a human being ever need to eat another whole food again! If we can modify, hydrogonize, heat treat, or otherwise prevert the original product to meet our low carb, low fat, low calorie....etc. way of eating! (sarcasm for those of you who didn't "hear" it in my voice lol)

I'll pass on the "loughnuts"

It makes me wonder what kind of fat they will be cooked in. If it's hydrogenated, not a one will pass my lips.

My take on the low carb products is this...I don't use them. I have yet to purchase SF chocolates, low carb chips, low carb ice cream, et al.

If I'm going to have chocolate then I'll have the real version. This keeps me real honest. When I know that I can't 'get away' with my endulgences then I tend to have far less of them.

If I'm going to have a KK then I'll have one. But I won't be kidding myself into thinking I'm minimizing the damage. I'll know that I'm not and then I'll be able to stop at one.

Just my 2 cents.

GM, I agree with you! Lately, I've been thinking about trashing all my "low carb treats"--ice cream bars and RS chocolates--cuz I find myself overdoing these as well. I think it's best for me to just allow myself an occasional (like once a month) indulgence and be done with it. Return to the other 29 days of LCE. I think you're right, it'll keep me "honest".

I think it's informative to discuss what makes Krispy Kremes so desirable in the first place...

Supposedly, a study was done here on the east coast by some college students, and they fed pure sugar to mice. The mice ate it until they were full, then walked away.

They then fed the mice fat. They ate it until they were full, then walked away.

They fed the mice a mixture of the two. They ate it until they died.

Having had my way around a box or two of them myself (pre-LC, of course) I can verify their findings.

But a "low-sugar" version? Such a thing does not, nor ever will, exist!
