It appears that most people go from eating an unbeleivable amount of carbs to next to nothing during induction. They lose a lot of weight and then start adding carbs weekly. The weight loss seems to almost come to a halt or a best a crawl. At that point has your body now adjusted to the amount of carbs you are currently eating?
If it is, does it not help by drastically reducing you carbs to induction levels for a week or so just to throw your bodies carb tolerance off track again and allow you to quickly lose. I just wandered why in Adkins book he doesn't suggest the odd week or two back in induction. The thing I seem to notice more is that a lot of us tend to lose discipline during the Ongoing Weight loss phase as we tend to stall. I would think going back to industion levels would be good for a jump start.

alot of people will go back to induction level down the road usualy way after owl.. to jump start. but i have found if i keep jumping up and down in my level my body just gives up trying to figure out how im feeding it and stalls even longer... if you want to go back to an induction type of eating but keep your carb count some what higher i think that would help more than lowering carb count... example instead of lowering carb count... add more holesome veggies.. more salads keep carb count at same level but rid your self of those LC breads and other products.. realy watch your dairy intake.. and keep water levels up..

this is basicly a everyones body acts diffrently esp w/ the difrent things we eat.. some people can eat all the LC products and it dont throw them out of ketosis.. others cant touch them...

maby someone else could throw more info in here but that is my opinion

i totally agree with gilley, and i think that the purpose of induction is to 1- rid the body of addictive-craving induced carbs, 2- to get the body into ketosis so that fat burning can begin and 3. to rid the body of excess water weight( which is the reason some people have so much excess weight loss during induction, its mostly water weight). as dr atkins says in the book, u have to add in 5 carbs a week until u reach your magic no. of carbs(the amount the will cause u to not lose weight) when u find this number this is the right amount of carbs for you. the one major thing is to find out what will work and not work for your own body. ive give u an example, i only lost 2 lbs during induction, but right now with added excersize and about 50 carbs a day im losing 2-3lbs a week. and next week i will be adding 5 more carbs because of the success of my adding exercise. also i eat low carb ice cream about 3 times a week and low carb bread about every other day, but everyone cant do this, and im sure there may come a day when i will have to give them up.
so i dont think its so much lose discipline, its more or less you have reached that magic no. of where u no longer lose weight and you need to remain below your magic no.
and im not sure which version of atkins you have read, but the one that i have does mention going back to basics to jumpstart a stall.

if im wrong in anything ive said above, someone please correct me, but this is what ive gotten from of the reading and researching ive done.

thanks

For me, when I stopped losing, I increased my carb intake by adding more wholesome vegetables.
I dropped 1.8 lbs within a day just by doing that. And I've incorporated really strenous exercise into the program as well, so I know I can increase my carbs if I wanted...I did have them increased for awhile...but now the 129 on the scale just doesn't seem to want to move anymore...so I decided for a week, I am going to cut out all bread and fruit - I don't eat all that much anyway - but it's time to detoxify myself once again - plus I'm close to that TOM, and I know this will hlep prevent bloating and weight gain...I'll see how it goes...so I guess I'll be doing something similar to induction...however, I am going to keep my carbs at 30 g - 'cuz I know I can still lose at that many...especially wtih many, many, many yummy veggies!

In my nearly 6 years of low carbing, I've come to a few conclusions:

1. A stall is when you do not see a weight fluctuation (up or down) for more than a solid month.

2. Do not "go back to Induction" repeatedly. Instead, eat "clean"....the KISS method (Keep It Simple, Sweetie).

3. To jump start a weight loss: up your intake of low glycemic vegetables dramticaly, cut down a little on the protein per meal, eat no low carb products, up your water intake, and exercise a little more.

4. Allow your body time to adjust after each 20 or 25 pounds of weight lost. Sometimes it takes as high as 3 weeks to start losing consistently again.

5. Realize that most body types have "set points" and sometimes it takes 2 months to get past a set point.

6. The body is smart. It remembers patterns. Be careful about creating patterns. Keep your body guessing.

7. This is not a race. This is a way of life. As Mary Kay so aptly stated this morning in another post: "I am not dieting this time. I am living."

Thank you April,
You have been at this alot longer than i have. But i have realized that bounceing back n forth from carb counts.. don't help things!
