Hey all,

Need some insight. Is it possible to lose weight and not be in ketosis? I've worked out 5x this week and other than yesterday (ate too much cheese) have been eating strictly on plan. Yet when I checked this morning, the strips indicated negative ketones?? I drink 6 liters of h2o a day and ACV? Could the amount of h2o have an effect on the strips?

Thoughts?

You give off ketones through your breath, and through sweat also. If you are putting out most of your ketones this way, very little would be showing up in your urine.

reeeally? i fell out of ketosis last nite, too and am not sure why. i had some LC ice cream early in the week - but we're talking a couple tablespoons, so i didn't think that could do it. then i was thinking maybe it was the cream cheese i ate?
but i have been exercising like MAD all week ... 2 hrs yesterday, lots of sweat. so maybe i got rid of some ketones that way???

One thing I've noticed is that when I excercise I can actually feel thing "metallic" taste in my mouth even more intense than I usually do.

I think excercise (I do a walking tape) will help kick start the process. I also think drinking alot of water does it too.

Yes, ketosis is not required for weight loss.

That could dilute the ketones to undetectable levels. Not sure if that is what is happening, but it is a possibility.

You don't run out of ketones by loosing them. If your ketone levels become too low, your body will simply make more.

Remember, the reason you have ketones in the first place is because your brain can only survive off of glucose and ketones. When glucose levels get too low, your body has to make ketones to enable your brain cells to survive. People who don't do lc, have enough glucose being supplied to the brain to avoid needing ketone production.

If your stix are negative, then either:

1. You are getting enough glucose to feed your brain (glucose can come from carbs and is also created in your body by gluco-neo-genisis, the pathway that makes glucose de novo) or

2. You are drinking enough water to dilute the ketones to the point that they don't register anymore. Or

3. You just don't register positive on the stix at all even if you are in ketosis.

Shannon:

Don't sweat the strips (no pun intended).

If you're losing weight and inches, who cares if the strips turn purple or not?

Besides, I see that you're nearly at goal...the weight may come off very slow at this juncture. But, since this is a WOL for you by now, you GO girl!!!!
