I am on meds for diabetes type 2 .. but did not take any this am...I usually take 2... 500 mg. of glucophage in the morning.. however I did take my meds at 10 pm last evening..2 glucophage 500mg. and 1 glucotrol 5 mg... nothing to eat since 7 pm...
this am I took 1/4 cup of splenda powder mixed with water to drink.. checked bs before
    bs 4:40 AM 86
    bs 5:11 AM 113
    bs 5:41 AM 139
    bs 6:11 AM 137
    bs 6:41 AM 129

So what do you think,, I would hate to see what it did to me without any meds in my body..please keep in mind I have diabetes really bad...before low carbing my morning bs were 300 plus and after a bowl of cereal or oatmeal it would be 450 to 500.. SO I THANK GOD THAT I FOUND LOW CARB EATING..AND THE WEIGHT WAS PACKING ON LIKE CRAZY.. OH and before lowcarbing ..I was taking 4 5oomg of glucophage daily and 4.. 5 mg of glucotrol, and 2 advandias .. and at another time was on actos... with all this and still bs were high...I had tried loosing weight and to NO avail... told my DR. I am going off all meds but glucophage and try to loose this weight well , I did but my A1C test was 8.1 and he ask me to try 1.. 5 mg of glucotrol, so I did reluctantly...the A1C test is now 6.1 and the weightloss has stopped again... I am trying to get it going , if I don't soon I will ask him to stop the glucotrol once more... he knows and so do I that the glucotrol is a fat storing pill... sorry ,back to the test...53 points in 1 hr.. not very good.. later I will try the packets of splenda to see how they effect me... but now it's time for meds , coffee and food...

Oh my goodness, nutlover! Those numbers are appalling, now that I understand better what they mean!

I have been warning folks against the bulk Splenda for some time now... I will do it with even more vigor!!!

    Blessings!

    Like Sharron,
I put my vote in for SteviaPlus. If one of you lovely ladies would test that, it would be great!!

Thanks guys for being the "testers" for us!

I don't mind at all, since I don't have to pay for my very costly strips.. my ins covers them 100% and my Dr. gives me all I want , he knows I check my bs about 6 to 7 times a day...but I don't think I could do the stevia , I REALLY THINK IT'S BITTER..hopes someone will tho..

Oh, no, Maggie! I won't be doing any *experiments* until after my impending arrival!
I'm working too hard to keep those numbers down!

Nutlover, I don't know what to say, except STICK WITH LOW CARB! You have really made some progress! I feel very lucky that I have never seen numbers like that...

I like Stevia, but you are not supposed to use it while pregnant (I checked with an N.D.) -- something about it being a uterine irritant... So I have pretty much had to stick with Splenda (I won't TOUCH aspartame while pregnant. ).
But I am very happy to benefit from all of your *studies*.
    Thanks again,
    Summer

Sandy, have you tried Stevia Plus by Wisdom Herbs? It's not bitter. Stevia vary so much from manufacturer to manufacturer.

I have Stevia Plus, but I just don't think I could choke down 50g of it. The erythritol slurry was gross enough I'm more than happy to stick my (or anyone else's) finges, though

OK, gang. Here's the report of the "Tara/Maggie Conspiracy" test of Stevia Plus:

6:15 81 just under 2 tsp.* Stevia plus in a few oz. of water
    6:45 81
    7:15 81
    7:45 78

I couldn't wait till 8:15, as planned, for the last test, since I was very, very hungry. So I cut the test off a bit early and quick scrambled an egg, quickly followed by putting on a pot of coffee.

If at an hour and a half, all I've done is go down, there doesn't seem to be any likelihood of there being any significant rise in my blood sugar had I waited another thirty minutes for the two hour mark. I've been tweaking things the last couple of days to, among other things, have a nice low blood sugar in the am., which means I'm generally pretty hungry when I get up.

Clearly, this is an ok sweetener for me. It's on a par with the zero carb liquid splenda, which is currently unavailable except in the cabinets of those who bought up the last few bottles just as the McNeil Lab. goons were pulling Trish's "license". When my stash of zero carb is gone, if there's no other liquid splenda yet available, I'll consider this for a component in my sweetening arsenal. Even though this brand is supposed to be less bitter, it's still got that "sweet to bitter" taste with a little bit on the tongue. Maybe in combination with something else (as Sharron always suggests) it's a good way to "stretch out" some of the slightly higher glycemic artificial sweeteners.

THANKS, Tara, for providing me with a sample of Stevia Plus - even as we risked investigation by 47 different government agencies by sending this innocuous white powdery stuff through the mail!

(* this is the approx. equivalent in sweetening power to 1/4 cup plus - a 50 gm dose - of sugar.)
