towards the water drinking requirement? I'm re-reading my Atkins book and it says :

You must drink at least eight 8 oz glasses of water daily......You may have unlimited amounts of herbal tea, but these do not count towards your total of eight glasses?

I don't get why the water you use to make the tea wouldn't count?

LOL! It's questions like these that made me realize I needed to re-read the book!

For one...most teas have natural diuretic properties, meaning it causes you to urinate more. Nothing hydrates the body quite like water!

Plus, if the "water" has any kind of nutrients or additives, your liver still has to process it. Water is just water and doesn't make the liver work at it.

As long as you are drinking enough water, (1/2 your body weight in oz.), tea should not be a problem. For those who like theirs 'leaded', caffeine stalls some people, doesn't affect others.

All true,

(said as a drinker of much tea, green and - in the summer - regular, iced.)

So... herbal tea really doesn't have any carbs in it? I'm thinking of switching from coffee to herbal tea (trying to dump the splenda need I have for coffee, even though I've not been much of a tea person). Anyway... I like the Cinammon Apple Spice and the package says 0 calories and 0 carbs. Went on Celestial Seasonings web site and pretty much all of the herbal teas read the same way... even the "After Dinner" teas, like Vanilla Hazelnut, that sound really yummy.

Is this too good to be true? Or, can I enjoy herbal teas without guilt?

TIA for your help.

I've always trusted Clestial Seasonings to pretty much deliver what they say. I certainly enjoy their teas in addition to all the other stuff I drink. If you're nervous about the carb count, count them for .5 each. That's as much as they legally can have and still be called "0".

HTH.

I LOVE the Bengal spice - picked up some Chai the other day - that one has caffeine, and boy did I know it last night!

Being an avid ice tea drinker...

I wanted to ask the question on this thread.

When I drink lots of water... I go pee alot

When I drink lots of ice tea...I go pee alot

What's the difference (with respect to hydration)?

Speaking of tea.... the CS True Blueberry when sweetened enough tastes like juice to us.
I make it with 4 tea bags and 4 cups boiling water, let it steep for 10 minutes, squeeze out all the juices from the bags and discard bags, add 4 Tbsp. s/f blueberry syrup and 1/4 tsp. liquid stevia, pour over ice and enjoy. The best "juice" I've had in months!

Wolfman,

With pure water, there is nothing added that needs to be filtered out, from digestion right down to the level of your hard-workin' little nephrons. Consequently, you may pee just as much with tea (which, by the way is also mildly diuretic and encourages even more urine production) as you do with water, but your kidneys have an easier job of it when it's just water you're taking in.

Thanks Maggie!

I was just always curious about that.

It just that I have such a hard time trying to get my water levels up. I've used lemon etc but still just don't drink enough.

But! I can drink tons of Ice Tea... So I'm trying to decide if thats good enough or am I actually just further dehydrating myself?
