ONCE A MONTH MY BOSS TAKES US OUT FOR A DINNER MEETING, WELL THIS TIME WE WENT TO RUBY TUESDAYS, HE KNOWS IM LOW CARBING AND CHOOSE THEM BECAUSE THEY HAVE A GREAT LOW CARB MENU. NOW THE DINNER WENT WELL, AND I HAD A REALLY WONDERFUL WEEK AND GREAT WEIGHT LOSS, SO I DECIDED TO ORDER THE LOW CARB CHEEESECAKE FOR DESSERT. I TOOK A BITE OF THE CHEESECAKE AND MMMMM, IT WAS REALLY DELICIOUS, SO I QUICKLY TOOK ANOTHER BITE, THEN ALL OF SUDDEN I STARTED THINKING WHAT IF THEY MADE A MISTAKE AND GAVE ME THE REGULAR CHEESECAKE, THIS TASTES TO GOOD TO BE AN ALTERED VERSION. SO I CALLED THE WAITRESS AND ASKED WAS THIS THE LOW CARB AND OF COURSE SHE SAID YES, THEN I THOUGHT HOW WOULD SHE KNOW, SHE DOESNT WORK IN THE KITCHEN. SO AFTER THREE BITES I THOUGHT ID BETTER NOT RISK IT ANYMORE. NOW IM TOTALLY OBSESSED AND NOT SURE ABOUT EATING OUT ANYMORE. CAN I TRUELY TRUST THESE PEOPLE ABOUT SOMETHING THAT IS SO DELICATE TO ME, SO I GUESS MY ONCE A WEEK EATING OUT TREAT TO MYSELF WILL BE COMING TO A SLOW HALT IF NOT A COMPLETE STOP.

AM I BEING TOO OBSESSIVE NOW, OR JUST PARANOID, I REALLY DONT WANT TO BE SABOTAGED BY NOT REALLY KNOWING AND TO ME THE ONLY WAY TO REALLY KNOW IS IF IM PREPARING THE FOOD MYSELF. I KNOW WHAT IM PUTTING INTO MY FOOD.

HOPE THIS DOESNT DISCOURAGE ANYONE ELSE FROM EATING OUT, BUT IT HAS BEEN ON MY MIND SINCE THAT EVENING.

I feel the same way about eating out. People will tell you anything you want to hear. So I only eat out when I have too.

When you're eating out, make the best choices you can, based on whatever information is available. Then, drink lots of water and check to see if your "adventure" impaired your ketosis.

(Meantime, you might want to turn off your "caps lock" so it doesn't appear as though you are shouting all the time. )

I think when eating out, the best thing to do is to stay away from desserts, even if they are "Low Carb". That is one area I would be less likely to trust a resturant.

I agree with E.T. Its best to make the low carb choices you'd make at home, such as, a hamburger, minus the bun, and etc. Lots and lots of restaurants, and manufactures of LC foods, and products call things LC when it is NOT our idea of what LC'ing is all about.

Hey Fit,
I know exactly what you mean. I'm getting paranoid about salad dressings! I think I am going to start taking my own in my purse! The others are right, I wouldn't get any desserts out. Chili's has great fajitas, and bunless burgers with veggies. They are my favorite out-to-eat spot to date.
Best of luck to you, and we are all glad you are here.

i definitely have a fear of what goes into burgers... asking if it is 100percent beef might help... but if you see the wait help I SEE lately... i am surprised they even know how to tie their shoes...

I felt the same wat about Ruby Tuesday's cheesecake......so so yummy! The crust is made with crushed nuts, therefore the lower carbs. Mine did not kick me out of ketosis, so I wouldn't worry too much--in fact I lost two pounds the week after I ate it! There is a low carb restaurant god!

I eat out a lot - I mean between 20 - 30 meals a week, and when I pay close attention to what I'm eating, and make good choices, I still lose weight.

Ruby Tuesday's is one of my favorite lc eating spots - but I'll have to try Chili's, the fajita sounds interesting.

Hey Fit!!! I eat at Ruby Tuesday's ALL the time. I have the cheesecake EVERY time. That's why I go there. It is divine and is made by the Atkins Nutritionals company, so it is atkins approved. There are also lots of really good cheesecake recipes here in the recipe data base up there at the top of the page. Have a look-see and I'll bet you'll find a good one you can make at home. I'll tell ya, cheesecake is so well adapted for LCIng that it ALWAYS tastes like you're cheating. That's why I made some last night. I felt like I hadn't cheated for soooooo long, I needed something that made me FEEL like I was cheating (not that that's an issue mind you. )

BTW, the strawberry sauce they offer at RT's DOES contain sugar, so I never get THAT.

I know, I know, I thought about it on the way home. How about 30 meals a month?

30 meals a week isn't that outragous, just eating OUT that many is. If we eat b, l, and d EVERY day, that's 21 meals a week. Then add in your snacks.........you're OVER 30. And if you are the type to eat 5-6 small meals a day, well you're looking at 35-42 meals a week. Mind boggling, eh?
