i dont know what my cholesterol level should be at but it says

Cholesterol---- 135
Triglycerides--- 57
HDL cholesterol *37
LDL cholesterol 87
Hdl to cholesterol ratio 4

My glucose fasting was 81, they have a {70-110} im guessing mine is good then..

then it has stats on that i fall in the follicular phase low level end...

These results look good. HDL Could be higher though.

Cholesterol---- 135

It's low, but most people go by the ratios now.

Triglycerides--- 57

150 is about average for the healthy non low carber. The lower the better. IMO 57 is excelent.

HDL cholesterol *37

This is the one part that worries me. This is your good cholesterol, and it is very low. Most low carbers are expected to have a higher HDL level.

This leads me to two questions. How long have you been low carbing? Are you trying to do low/moderate fat?

It is possible that newbies (low carbing for less than 6 months) might not yet have a higher HDL level. It is also possible that this could be a result of low fat intake.

Also do you eat nuts on a daily basis?

Some studies have shown that eating nuts, which are high in unsaturated fats, should increase your HDL levels.

LDL cholesterol 87

This is really good. LDL is the cholesterol that everyone is told to be afraid of. Under 100 is good.

Hdl to cholesterol ratio 4

You should aim for 4 or under. Strange thing is that when I calculated your numbers I came out with:

135/57 = 3.65

Maybe they were rounding up, but 3.6 is better than 4, but this is still good.

My glucose fasting was 81, they have a {70-110} im guessing mine is good then..

This is great. 120 or above is diabetes. My guess is that 110-120 is considered having high blood sugar, and would put you at risk for diabetes.

Sometimes you'll be given your cholesterol results as a ratio of total cholesterol to HDL cholesterol. (This is the same thing as saying total cholesterol divided by HDL cholesterol.) According to the American Heart Association (AHA), the ratio should be below 5:1, with the optimal amount being 3.5:1 (3.5 to 1).

Yours is 3.6, very close to the optimal.

You can also divide LDL cholesterol by HDL cholesterol to obtain a ratio. (This is the same thing as saying the ratio of LDL cholesterol to HDL cholesterol.) According to the American Heart Association, the ratio should be below 3.5.

Your ratio is 2.35. Well below the 3.5.

For women, they like to see the HDL greater than 50 (yours is 37, so it's a tad low) and the LDL less than 130 (yours is 87 and that's astounding).

okay are there other ways to make my HDL level higher.. eating nuts,???

i some times still find my self eating somewhat LOWFAT.. its just so hard to get out of that habit... i still buy the skim milk cheeses. ect...

i think my main thing i was wondering about was my hormone level.. since that is the reason im seeing this doc... due to a female issue...

tho im very glad i thad these test done.. beacuse alot of health problems run in my family and suggar and high blood presure are to of the BIG problems in my family...

thank you all for helping me bring myself together on these tests i guess i was just so upset that none at the dr office was able to even talk to me .. when i had information in front of me..!

thank you agin!

Ditto, all of the above.

quote:
other ways to make my HDL level higher

Yup, nuts and not eating too low fat. Regular exercise is also usually recommended. But, Gilley, as everyone has pointed out, your numbers are very, very good!

I agree that they must have rounded your total/hdl ratio up, since I get 3.6 also.

You're doing very well, indeed, on most fronts.

Your FSH and LH levels can't be interpreted without knowing exactly which day of your cycle they were taken on, and even then, they have to be analyzed in the context of the other hormone levels, and in the context of what the issue is, i.e. fertility problems, menstrual irregularities, etc.

Gilley,

I agree that your test results generally look good, but that you do need to increase your HDL.

The recommended ways to do that include: don't smoke, get regular vigorous exercise, maintain a normal weight (in progress), avoid trans-fats completely, increase mono-fats (nuts, olives, salmon), increase dietary fiber and (my personal favorite) drink red wine.

Best wishes,

well i talked to doc today... they said my tests looked good.. nothing to be worried about in my tests. i asked them about my hormone level and they said for someone whom hasnt had a period in 7 months my levels are normal.. then she said that they want to start me on "provara" a form of hormone thing kinda like birthcontrole to jump start my period to see if it will come or not...
i realy hate takeing things beacuse past experiance w/ BC pills made me so sick... i"got sick" but... if there is nothing wrong w/ me LOL i could live w/o my monthly visitor..

but i do need to see if im able to have it at all... that is the next step.. this long process

Gilley, have they diagnosed you with PCOS???? (Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome) Women who are overweight can often suffer from this condition and it messes up hormone levels. Maybe something for them to consider?? Just a thought.

MK, awesome results!!!! About how much would a test like that run? We don't have insurance and I am very curious what my results would be after doing this for a year. don't know if it would fit in the budget. I suppose I could call the office and ask................duh!!!!
