| I have been lc'ing since January, lost quite a few,15 and have stalled, but does tanning affect that? I seem to see more results with tanning. Maybe it's because I "feel" better after but not sure. I just started about a week and a half ago, and I tan after I work out, and I feel "better". Anyone else tan with this wol?

| Good morning! My 2 cents here, I tan in MODERATION because it is a tremendous help with my skin condition (psoriosis, sp?) and the light therapy helps with my depression. I must stress, I do tan IN MODERATION. I am a fair complected person and I never get "dark". I ended up purchasing a home unit about two years ago and I LOVE IT! .Anyway, I feel better somehow with a little color/sun and I know it's all in my head, but it works for me! Toodles!

| I have never heard that tanning impacts weight loss in either direction. Frankly, I wouldn't believe it either. If you're referring to a tanning bed, the light emitted from the bulbs in the bed is supposed to be an effective alternative to natural sunshine for treating SAD- seasonal affective disorder. Kristie, you're probably on the right track when you say you "feel" better afterwards. |

| The only thing that tanning is proven to do (besides burning your skin) is cause mutations in DNA. Hence increasing the chances of getting skin cancer. I am not going to tell you not to do it, but just try not to overdo it. Sunscreen, even in tanning booths, is probably a good idea too. I can't imagine any biochemical mechanism for tanning to effect weight loss...

| I used to live in Hawaii and was tan year around, I felt really good all the time, didn't have as much depression and lost weight faster and just felt better about my appearance in general. I am mexican/hawaiian/filipino so my skin is pretty much tan year around, even without a tan

| The tanning is proven o help SAD as Kumus said. I work night shift so during the winter I see very little sunlight. Therefore I tan 10 minutes twice a week, No, I do not get tan, But my mood sure likes the tanning booth. Jackie

| I have to put my 2 cents in on this one. I have been tanning for the last month and it makes me feel good. I seriously doubt it does anything for weightloss (I have never heard this before). However, it does make me feel better about how I look. This makes me work harder at working out and how I eat. Therefore, indirectly it does help with my weight loss. I know many say it is bad for you, but I love it. I look better and feel better! I also find it very relaxing and it has become me time 3 times a week. Just my 2 cents!

| I have never went to a tanning bed before. This year I have been thinking about it. My skin tone is fairly lite so I always burn. I would love to wear shorts this year. I just thought it was really bad for your skin and it made your skin age faster. So I was wondering if anyone else had heard of this before??

| Well, it does age your skin faster. On the other hand, if you're willing to make some trade-offs and you can desist from turning yourself into a leather handbag, the sun makes many of us feel better. I'm one. I'll bet there's a melatonin connection here.

| I think that tanning beds and the sun can both be bad for the skin. However, in moderation (for me personnaly) I don't think there is any harm. However, Lisa if you burn you will have to be very careful in going to a tanning bed. Take the advice of the tanning bed owners. Be very honest with them about your burning easily, so they start you off slowly. There are a lot of studies about skin cancer and if you choose to tan wether it be natuarally or not, you should do your research. I personally love to tan, but I am careful not to burn. Also, I always stop way before I start to look too tan (my aunt's skin looks like leather from tanning to much).

| I was born in Hawaii, raised in Florida, and never realized how fair I was until I moved to Boston and lost my tan. Since then, I have avoided tanning like the plague. At 19, I had some pre-cancerous cells removed from my back. My best friend from home was diagnozed with skin cancer last year - she was VERY lucky that they caught it early. Most of my friends from home, and my parents' friends have had issues with skin cancer - directly related to tanning. I know two people who died from malignant melanoma - one man was 36. And that does not even begin to address the premature aging caused by the sun. (Can you tell I'm kind of waiting for the other shoe to drop?) I do, however, feel better when I get some sunlight, but never go outside (heck, anywhere) without sunscreen. Use of tanning beds, in moderation, may help folks feel better - I would be very careful about actually getting any color. Just my two cents.
