I've been slowly wiened off coffee and am now drinking decaf w cream. How do you make your coffee more interesting? I tried Atkin's syrup. Yeeeeeeucck, yuck, yuck!!! I threw it away because it was sooo sweet with very little flavor of what I bought (strawberry.) Toscani's is a little better. I have the almond and hazelnut. Everyone talks about Davinci's. I want more intense flavor, less sweetish aftertaste.

Goldie, have you tried ground decaf flavored coffee? It's ground decaf infused with flavor, no sugar or sweetner.

there are only two places i can drink Decaf coffee from and it actualy taste good... Dunkin Donuts, and my work... i will only drink it at my work if its a new pot that wasnt disturbed (a cup poured from it befor finished filling)
i worked at dunkin donuts and was spoiled w/ their coffee and well no old decaf is good... its best FRESH AS CAN BE...

now i have never tried star bucks...so i can't say about theirs but i would think as long as it is FRESH i mean you see it filling the pot when you walk in.

DaVinci syrups are my favorites in coffee on the rare occasions I add syrups.

I use flavored decaf coffee and add splenda and a little heavy cream. You can get some flavors in the grocery store. I get mine online from www.gevalia.com. They have some good flavors! My favorite is Hazelnut and Vanilla cream. Sometimes I mix the flavors, even better!

You need to start off with good decaf beans. I use either the starbucks or 8 o'clock brand whole beans.

Good decaf is the key, and making it a little stronger than you would regular coffee for some extra flavor
I get two pounds of decaf beans at Costco, if you have one go there, they have the 2 lbs here in texas for 5.99 (thats right 5.99 for two lbs of beans) Grind it yourself either there or at home. If I make an 8 cup pot (really only about 4 mugs) I use 4 scoops, plus one heaping scoop for the pot. SOmetime I will even use 6 scoops, just cause i like coffee flavor (my favorite ice cream flavor is coffee hagan das, and I grew up eating coffee flavored dannon yougart.) Gevalia, I always thought their decaf coffee was lacking. Starbucks has some good decaf, we have friends in CA that send us some every now and then cause one of them works there.
Fresh, extra, and good beans.
You can add cinnamon to brewing coffee (put in basket), and other spices, vanilla, etc.
no extra sugar.

It's all in the beans and water I think - I use either bottled water or water filtered through the Brita System cause our tap water is HORRIBLE!!! I also use Speeder & Earl's Decaf cooffee (Earl's Blend is the decaf version of the Speeder's Blend) I order it on-line at www.speederandearls.com. My DH and I found this coffee during our honeymoon in VT and it's what we use home - it's the best tasting decaf I've tasted. I also use a shot of the sugar-free DaVinci Syrups every now and then - Caramel is my favorite surgar free syrup as it reminds me of the full sugared Caramel Machiatto's from Starbucks I used to love!

Also! Buy your coffee in the bean and then grind it at home - I think coffee tastes better when it's freshly ground!

I agree with all of these posts........good beans are key. I am a Starbucks girl myself. I am very very picky about my coffee/lattes. The proportion of coffee to water is also very important.....2 tbs of coffee to 6 oz of water. If this is too strong, when your coffee is done brewing, cut it with water in yoru cup. Don't add more water to your coffee maker, because you will bring in more of the bitter flavors of the coffee while you are brewing. I do this with a cone filtered coffee maker, I grind my own beans, and my coffee tastes awesome

Good luck

Robin
