| Rob ![]() I agree with Susan, I SO prefer to eat at home these days but, that isn't always possible so you do what you can. Thanks to some of the new lc bakery products, we now keep a pack of tortillas and 1/2 a loaf of bread in the trunk on weekends so we can make due with whatever we find. These are the favs... Our favorite Mexican joint for carnitas or carne asada and I bring in a little baggie of OUR torts. Go by the store and buy a rotis chicken, a little cheese, and some salsa. Walk nextdoor to the Starbuck's and have chicken wraps on the patio with our coffee. In a real hurry, we just drive through a burger joint, toss the bun, tear off all the crust on 2 slices of lc bread (which lowers the carbs per slice We really save the burger thing as a last resort because fast food burgers aren't our favorite but they quick, lc, and cheap so they due in a pinch. As for going out to dinner, we RARELY do it anymore. Our food at home is so much better than most we can get out, or, at the very least, it's just as good but ALOT CHEAPER. So, we have a hard time going out to dinner spending $60-$80 all the while discussing how WE would have made it! ![]() We might as well just stay home and MAKE IT! Er, dinner I mean....

|
quote:
Don't go to Macaroni Grill...as the name implies, everything centers around pasta.

We ended up at Macaroni Grill a few weeks ago and I was pleasantly surprised that they have lots of relatively lc options in salads and grilled chicken and beef (just watch the sauces). In their "from the grill" menu, they say that they will replace pasta or potatoes with spinach, asparagus or green beans.

| I prefer eating at a buffet myself, We have several good ones in our area. "Ryans steak house" has a pretty good buffet, but I like "Golden Corral" much better. I feel as though I have more control over what I eat at a buffet. I usually have a huge salad with lots of dark green veggies, a little cheese and ranch dressing. Then I have roasted chicken, sometime light meat, sometime dark, I might eat a piece of baked fish with tartar sauce on it, if i'm still hungary. I also have some cooked veggies, like cauliflower, and brocolli. Latley,I have added a small baked sweet potato once in a while. I don't even go near the dessert bar! but usually i'm so satisfied I don't even get tempted. I like being able to eat foods that I would eat at home, they have a good variety of lowcarb foods. Eating at a buffet, you have to be able to make the right choices or it could become a high carb disaster |

| RobinBeBe Newbie 04-03-04 07:22 AM 04-03-04 05:22 AMGosh where do I start! I eat out all the time...probably too much to be honest!! Mcdonalds....breakfast only pretty much. The scrambled eggs and sausage are good. Arby's just added the LC menu...basically they take the meat and cheese off of their sandwiches, put them on a piece of lettuce with a fork and knife. Not bad! Hardees has a very good LC burger. Mexican....Fajitas, grilled chicken, carne asada taco salad are good....just avoid the chips! Chinese....personally, I avoid teryiaki, any brown/sweet sauces. I usually go for white sauce, or steamed chinese. Bar and grills....I just get a chicken breast, steak, burger sans bun, or fish with some veggies or salad. I think it is really a matter of making wise choices when eating out, and you can incorporate this into your eating. Just beware of the hidden carbs Dana Carpender's Carb Counter, BTW, is excellent for this...lists counts for lots of fast food restaurants, as well as some sit down ones. Now I can order from about anywhere. Like to go to O'Charleys and choose from one of their low car entrees, seafood or steak, -- even can go to K&W cafeteria and make selections. It gets easier to realize that you can eat low carb just about anywhere -- it is about making wise choices. It is nicer to go to restaurants that do the low carb specialty dishes. Golden Corral is a good choice too -- Can always get steak and salad..... 320/275/150 Started Atkins 1-19-04 Posts: 408 | From: NC, United States | Registered: 02-12-04 ![]() ![]() prinzess_fay Low Carb Guru ![]() 04-03-04 11:33 AM 04-03-04 09:33 AMMe and DH love to go to pondarosa. Why should I worry about being one, too? We tend to bring in more than eat out. I do most of the things already listed. In addition, I have been known on many occasions to eat the topping off pizza and throw the bread away.
