| Hello all! Before this WOE, I ate yogurt as a daily snack. Now, due to the introduction of LC yogurt (Dannon most specifically), I've been eating it everyday as my morning snack - I mix it w/ 2tbs of flaxmeal. My question is this - considering the LC yogurt contains asparatime, would it be more beneficial (aka not produce stall) to eat full fat plain yogurt? I'm a frequent visitor of Whole Fields and they sell Stonyfield - the only problem is that on the side of the container it reports 22carbs of sugar per cup. So should I stick w/ the LC Dannon or go for the full fat plain? and if w/ the full fat how much would lend 4 carbs? Thanks!!!

| Let see 22 carbs per cup come out to 11 per 1/2 cup and which is 4 oz or the amount of the serving of the dannon. I asked this question a long time ago, because of the fermentation of the milk to turn it to yougart you can cut the amount of carbs by more than 1/2. So that 1/2 cup of yogurt is now 5.5 or less. It is healthier, and you know what is in it. You can add splenda to it and some fruit if you like. You can also make your own with 1/2 and 1/2. I started doing this about 2 months ago. I believe 1 cup of 1/2 and 1/2 is like 11 carbs, so a 1/2 cup is 5.5 before fermentation, so I figure it at 2-3 per 1/2 cup. I love the taste of the homemade yogart, and I know what is in it... 1/2 and 1/2 no preservatives, no additives. I buy frozen strawberries and frozen blackberries (no sugar added) and fresh when available. Hope this helps. c

| Shannon, I hunted the cooking forum and found my question to sharon the low carb cook, here was her answer: posted 02-09-04 04:05 PM Well, according to the folks who wrote the Go! Diet, yes, the carbs would be substantially less. Normal yogurt is supposed to be calculated at 4 carbs per cup and I think it is typically 18 -- you could probably guesstimate at about 1/4 its norm...??? Really, like about 1.25 a cup! Blessings! | I didn't buy it becasue I didn't kow how to count it!! Now that I know, I will buy the plain instead of the WAY more expensive Dannon LC! Though I like the ease of only opening the continer, I could certainly eat the regular at home when I didn't have to carry it along anywhere anyway. Thank you for the answer to someoene else's question!

| huskersfan, get some of those small glad containers Round or square. The hold little over 1/2 cup. I can put some frozen berries on the bottom, yogurt on top, close lid and carry to work, when I am ready to eat it, put a little splenda on it mix up the fruit (kind of like dannon fruit on the bottom) and eat. I do have a fridge at work, but if you don't get one of those blue ice and put it in a small lunch bucket. try that. c

| The LC yogurt I buy, blue bunny brand, is made with Splenda. It doesn't seem to cause me any problems. I have questions about the carb count in plain yogurt, though...supposedly it is decreased because of the "fermentation" process. But I'm not sure if commercial yogurt is made the same way. Because the commercial kefir is often just made by mixing in stuff and not properly letting it ferment. I used to eat plain yogurt every morning for years, but when my blood sugar starting getting out of whack, I found it was bothering me more. It also varied from type to type--some obviously had much higher carb counts. |

| So, let me see if I've got this straight... I can buy Dannon plain yogurt (the kind in the red-and-white container), not to be confused with the vanilla yogurt, and I can count 1 cup of that yogurt as 1.25 grams of carbs? Is that correct?

| carolyn in texas COPIED FROM OLD BOARD04-01-04, 10:20 AM I think thats what sharron was saying. i usually go a little higher and count 4 carbs for the yogart... that way I am giving mysself a little leeway.... I havn't gotten any of the plain dannon, so... give it a try, Sharron if you are reading any comments on this yogurt count. http://www.youravon.com/cnorulak carolyn in texas started 8/11/03 327/282/150 Last edited by Rob; 04-05-2004 at 10:01 AM. |
