Gosh, after I do well all day, I find myself eating spoonful after spoonful of peanut butter. It's my only deviation. I try not to eat it after dinner, but it's very hard. Maybe I should just throw the pb out and not buy anymore. This diet is just so limited in treats that I guess I need something where I won't have to sacrifice the progress I've made.

Hi,

If you're still hungry after dinner, maybe you should eat more at your meal?? I know the snackies grab at me after a meal too so I keep treats (of the legal sort) around so I don't feel deprived. I've found that a handful of nuts... almonds are a favorite... or a bit of sharp cheddar cheese really helps. If I find myself going back for more, I drink a large glass of water and then grab for some raw veggies (celery is my fave).

Hope this helps!

Ginger

If you think it's limited on treats you need to find some low carb dessert recipes--there are so many things you can eat--cream, muffins, pancakes, cake, pudding, all kinds of stuff, not even including anything with sugar alcohols. Berries and whipped cream for one.

If peanut butter is a problem, maybe you shouldn't buy it. We all have some foods we just can't be around.

Two things you can do, either put a couple of spoonfuls in a small bowl and only eat that, or don't keep pb in the house for awhile. I have to do that sometimes.... I can just sit and eat peanut butter. I make yogurt, and add fresh or frozen berries, and splenda and it sure takes the edge off wanting something sweet. If you don't want to make yogurt, buy the full fat plain and add your berries and splenda.
because the milk is fermented in yogart the actual carb count is lower than what is on the container. 1/2 cup is usually about 3-4 carbs

PB...my weakness as well! However, I made a plan and have kept to it as much as I can. I am like you - could eat a whole jar. My dh lives off of PB sandwiches and PB and Bananas, so it is always in the house. For me, I made the decision that Saturdays would be my PB day, and I would have a treat of 2 Tbsp - as long as I didn't have any the rest of the week. When you haven't had PB for a week, and then have it, you enjoy every moment of it like never before! It even tastes better than it ever did before! So that is what I have been doing for myself. Also, for me, I see it as a way of self-discipline, too. If I can discipline myself with PB, I can discipline every other area of my life, too. However, I have been tempted to ask my dh to make me 1/2 a PB sandwich 'cuz he wouldn't go overboard on the PB like I do (I like it to be thick, thick, thick)...but I have to learn to discipline myself in this area as well...that's why I haven't asked him to make a sandwich for me.

Good, good suggestions. Thank everyone. I like that 2 tbsp in a bowl. Think I'll do that til PB runs out and then don't buy for awhile. I like sfjello and cream. Trying to keep the carbs low because my testing strips are only a light pink. Adding carbs has been too, too easy and I'm afraid I might knock myself out of ketosis. I want to save the lc desserts for after I reach my goal so I don't go overboard if they taste terrific (it would be like replacing PB with something equally dangerous.)
So just trying to keep eating clean and exercising and water. I also like to challenge myself 2 weeks at a time. A month seems too long for me, so I break it into a smaller amount of time. First week if I did well the previous week, then I will hopefully be happy enough to continue it for the first week. Then the second week I'm motivated because I know this is the week before weigh in and that motivates me to be good.
Gosh, this one message has so many topics in it.

Oh, Goldie, I feel your pain! I've been having the same problem with peanut butter. My DH lives off the stuff, buys the huge containers from Sam's and finishes them off in only a few weeks. He works at home, so I will come home at night and find the open PB sitting on the counter with a knife across the top. The temptation is almost more than I can bear, especially if I'm tired and hungry and I know it will be another half hour before I can get dinner on the table. After 30 years, I'm afraid I've given up trying to train him to put it away when he's done.

So, I quickly put the PB away when I see it -- out of sight, out of mind. I'm also trying all the tricks that have been mentioned already -- except for the almonds, since I can't stop at just a few, no matter how satisfied I am.

Maybe we should have a PB avoidance challenge.

Good luck!

I'm the same as all you other PB lovers...can't live without the stuff! My BF and I eat TONS of it and while he can just have a spoonful and be fine, I can't keep my paws off it! One way I've learned to cope with this is to spoon it out with a measuring spoon...that way I know exactly how much I'm having, plus it's a nice sense of control to measure it, eat it, and move on. It doesn't always work, but for some reason it does more often than not.

Yes, use a measuring spoon to portion out your peanut butter! and if you want a true Tbs. take a knife and level it off. When you do that you can be sure you are only eating a Tbs. other wise if you heap it up on the spoon, you are getting much more. Only trouble with doing that is you don't get much peanut butter I love peanut butter!! always have, always will, So when I decide to have some, I just put a big ole glob on a small plate and go at it.
