You were able to eat a big slice of pizza and didn't gain, I would say that was pretty darn good. I wouldn't advise anyone else to do this, but it is working for me . I think it is a method I can use to maintaine my weight as long as I eat clean the rest of the week after a splurge meal. I don't consider it a cheat because I plan it, and I'm comfortable doing it. Its nice to be able to go out to dinner once a week and not be totally obsessed with every gram of carb I eat, and to be able to have a special treat on one day out of seven. :fork: Thanks for your input, if I find it is causing me cravings or other problems I will rethink it.

I have practiced this on occasion (not intentionally...). (One day/meal splurge)

I normally immediately gain about 2-3 lbs (water probably...).

Sometimes...(I repeat sometimes...) I then steadily lose past my stall point. But there have been times where it took me 2 weeks to work off those 2-3 lbs.

So I guess YMMV!

I am still holding at 121.0 pounds today. I have been very good since my splurge meal. (Monday) I don't really need to break a stall as I am at a weight I want to maintain, so I am going to have a splurge meal once a week, and eat clean and very low carb ( around 40.0 grms) a day the rest of the week. If I can maintain my weight doing this, I will be a happy camper! This may not work for everyone, and I wouldn't advise doing it at any time even on maintenance If you don't have full control of your eating habits. I can have ONE splurge meal a week and go right back to eating on plan with no problems. I will continue to do this as long as it works for me.

Talking Re: Refeeding

I lost about 5 lbs on the first few days of induction and then stalled for weeks, I was eating clean all along and still nothing. Last weekend I ate off plan (Chinese food) and broke my stall, I weighed my self 2 days later and was another 4 lbs lighter. Yaaaaahooooo. Not sure if this was a coinsidence, but I will not make it a habit of doing that as it sounds unhealthy.

Congrats on losing 4 pounds. Maybe it was time to start losing again, or maybe eating the chinese food did help break the log jam as Dr. Atkins calls it. Whatever the reason, you did lose 4 pounds and that is great. Sometimes you just have to wait it out and after awhile the weight starts dropping again. If you have been stalled for months on end it might be worth a try at a moderate refeed for one day, and see if it will get things moving again. Please understand,I don't advocate using this method of eating for anyone but myself. Good Luck........

I have tried this two or three times in the last year when I was stuck--for me, it worked. I don't know if it was just "mental" though, since I felt so sick and then sluggish, that I looked forward to/stayed on my re-Induction much more willingly than before It seemed to work, my lbs. definitely budged in the right direction.

I had heard of this from other people through the grapevine as well. It was suggested, however, that instead of doing this for 2 days, do this for one meal and then go back to your normal woe...otherwise, the refeeding could send you into a spiral of sugar cravings...so instead, I would suggest upping your good carbs by 5 more grams...that's what I did and the weight loss started again......you could do a refeed, then start back lowering your carbs, see a weight loss - and then, all of a sudden, in the next couple of weeks, you're up 2 lbs and you can't figure out why. It could be that what you ate two weeks ago is finally showing on the scale. Sometimes it takes that long before an actual weight gain will show...you may think, 'oh, I'm losing again' after only a couple of days...but what that hc meal did to you doesn't show up for 2 more weeks...just my 2 cents...I think it's okay to have a hc meal once a week - if you're closer to goal and you can afford it and you have your cravings under control. Kinda what Dr Atkins said - if you know you're going to indulge, scale back for 2 weeks - drop down to a lower phase - like Induction for 2 weeks - and then enjoy yourself for that one indulgence - as long as it doesn't send you into sugar cravings and makes you go off plan for 1, 2, 3 weeks....just my 2 cents...

PEople who find themselves in a long stall need to eat high carbs for a day or two. The body is a prefectly made chemical machine...if it is not getting all the chemicals it needs to attain homeostasis, it will improvise. For instance, When cutting back on the carbs in such a way like Atkins diets promote, the body will take the protein and convert it into carbs, the carbs that it needs. IT will take any fuel and convert it chemically. This is what causes the STALL. Eat some real high carbs for one day or even for one meal like CAD promotes, will prevent your body from making its own supplement
