| I feel like I may be eating too many calories. I am at 175 now and want to be at 155. I am consuming about 2000 calories per day, 50-60% fat, 30-40% protein and 6% carbs. I know I can lose weight eating 1300-1400 cal/ day but I am starving when I eat that little. Typical day is: Breakfast- 6 pieces bacon, Venti Coffee Snack- Turkey Lunchmeat Lunch- 7-9oz burger or chicken with salad, diet soda Snack- More lunchmeat or almonds Dinner- Chicken or steak with vegetable, diet soda Snack- SF Jello 100 oz water or more daily |

| Lucky, I suspect you'll hear from others more experienced that you need to increase your lc veggies. They will fill you up without adding a lot of calories. I would also cut back on the lunchmeat and almonds. Almonds are pretty high calorie, even though they are lc. I, for one, can't eat just a few, so I've tried to replace them with other crunchy snacks. I really like celery with a smear of cream cheese mixed with couple of chopped green olives when I want crunch. Another way to reduce calories is cut back on portion size. Reduce the bacon by a few strips, or the burger by a couple of ounces, a little less dressing on the salads. I know for me that portion size is important. Good luck!

| LuckyZ, I know how you feel. I just restarted induction with the added caveat to eat no more than 1500 calories per day and I AM STARVING. So far I haven't been able to keep under 20 grams of carbs because I am eating so, so, so many veges. Even though they are low carb even a tablespoon of onion here and a 1/2 cup of spinich there do add up. If you add more veges be careful of carb sneak. If you want to reduce your calories Laly has given you good advice above. Just be really, really careful to write down the calories and carbs of EVERYTHING that hits your mouth. I have been super diligent since restarting and can't believe all the stuff that was slipping by my food diary before. I am now counting cooking oils, garlic, spices, etc. It's a major pain but I've lost 4 lbs since Monday (of course its probably mostly poo!). Good luck. |

| I think caffeine and aspartame make me hungry. Since both are possible additives to diet sodas, that makes me wonder. I think one of my stalls was aggrivated by the pleasures of Vanilla Diet Coke! Have you tried Diet-Rite (Splenda, no aspartame, and no caffeine). If you're a ketostix fan, have you checked your ketones?

| I am in ketosis, but I have never been able to get a really dark reading, which I have read is not a big deal, that if you are in ketosis is doesn't matter if it's dark or light. Is this true? Also, I forgot to say that I also just started working out a lot. About 3 weeks ago I started working out 5-6 days/week. 3 days of 1 hour weight training and 3 days of 30 min of cardio. I am always SO hungry after. What can I eat before my workout to give me more energy? I tend to be weak when I am doing 30 carbs/ day. Thanks!!!! |

| i definitely do not think you are overeating, based on the menu you posted. especially if you are working out that much! are you following atkins? are you in induction? i would strongly suggest upping your LC veggies - more lettuce, spinach, broc, cukes, cauliflower, mushrooms, etc. also, watch your salt and nitrate/nitrite intake. (i.e. bacon, lunchmeat, nuts) ... may be causing water retention. also, the SF jello may not be a good choice. the store bought kind stalls me ... try barb keith's recipe. and before your workouts try eating a small serving of portein and good carbs. i usually have some turkey and swiss. or some leftover chicken, cold. or some blueberries or raspberries.

| Working out 5-6 days a week, you need more carbs.... start with more fruit, I am at the gym 6 days a week, and I am eating 50-70 carbs per day based on a suggestion from Kate (the LC trainer that lurkes on this site). I do 1/2 banana about every day or so, yogurt (plain, no sugar, regular fat - not low fat) Some day I will have a slice of LC bread with lunch or breakfast, Some days a lc tortilla with breakfast of dinner. But when you are working out so much you need more fuel, in terms of protien and carbs.... so.... try upping your carbs to 40-50 per day, and see if that helps. Before workouts, try the banana.... or yogart. carolyn

| Thanks! Yes I am following Atkins. Not in induction. I have been doing low carb for a year. I just can't get the scale to move at all right now. Been stuck for so long. Your're right I am probably having too much salt/ nitrates. I am upping my veggies today. Brought a big salad with lots of veggies to work. Why I am in ketosis but not losing weight? |
