| Good morning all you fellow LCers! I hope everyone had a blessed Easter weekend. I am venting here so please bear with me...I went to a few family gatherings over the weekend and I literally got bombarded with anti-low-carb sentiment, especially ATKINS! I don't go around telling people about my WOE, but with the dishes I bring to gatherings and what I choose to put on my plate, people ask if I am on a "LC diet" and I cannot lie, though I tell them it's my WOE not a diet. OMGosh! Arrggghhh! I am sooooo frustrated. I understand that people only know what they have heard - "you eat a lot of fat, fat is not good for you", or (I made Zuppa Tuscana soup) "that soup has sausage in it, how can that be good for you?", or "you don't get enough fiber on Atkins" and even "you need sugar for your memory". That last one REALLY got to me. My soon-to-be 15 yo DSD is just coming off induction and her mother and an uncle are telling her she is harming herself with this woe. They say we are not taking proper care of her by "making her eat this way". We are not MAKING her eat this way, she CHOSE it after seeing the change in ME!!!! Her doctor APPROVED her being on this WOE and the practice of about 7 physicians recommends Atkins! Well, all this has made me DETERMINED to SUCCEED on this WOE and end up healthier in body and mind. I KNOW this WOE is good for me AND my family and I am DETERMINED to continue with this WOE and even kick it up a notch by increasing my TAE BO workouts to 5x's a week (get the FRUSTRATIONs out!) to really keep me going. Thank you for listening and LC POWER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

| Well Suzanne, like you said, they havent researched and are not educated adequately to give you the proper advice. its so sad the ignorance that still exist about this woe. society has been conditioned and misinformed so many years that it will probably take a lot of years and lots more clinical research to retrain the thinking of everyone. but good for you, for not allowing you to become unfocused and be even more determined. when im at work, i hear the same stuff all the time, and i simply say the following, once you have educated yourself, then we can talk about my risks, until then let me eat in peace. and i dont mean to be so mean about it, but i have to be stern so i wont get so aggravated with them. and i also tell them, being as fat as i am aint healthy either, so what do i have to lose. that usually backs them also.

| i hear ya. i got lots of questions this weekend from family and friends ... one of them told me a friend of hers had tried it, but "couldn't handle all the bacon!" she asked me if i eat a lot of bacon ... i was mind boggled ... do people acutally STILL think this is a "meat and cheese diet?!" |

| It's frustrating, to be sure. I heard many of the same statements from my best friend when I started this WOE. However, after seeing what I eat daily and having many meals with me, she supports me. I still get comments about my use of butter and cream, but everyone knows how hard-headed I am

| I too am sorry you had to deal with this type of negativity. I have had people comment - I can't eat all that meat, and fat.... like thats all we eat.... Anyway, good for you for sticking to your guns and keeping up with you woe. Maybe next time, they will see you and know are not keeling over from all the meat and cheese you eat.... keep up the great work...

| Sorry to hear that. It is very frustrating when people attack your woe. When that happens to me I usually tell them about those two New England Journal of Medicine articles that showed Atkins to be safe and effective for at least the first year. If that doesn't work, just tell them: You won't convince me, and I won't convince you, thus I see no reason to keep talking about this.

| Thanks for the replies everyone. I guess another thing that keeps me going is the fact that I can "eat luxuriously" with cream, butter and cheese on this woe while the folks who don't get it suffer through their unbuttered veggies (IF they even EAT their veggies!) Have a great day!
