Default Problems dressing for your weight loss

Has ayone else had this problem? My DH has been getting on to me lately because of my clothes selection. I've dropped enough weight now that I am having to buy some new clothes. But the problem is that I still see myself as 35 lbs heavier and am still picking out things that are black, blue, grey, or dk brown to hide my bum, tummy, etc..or something much older looking than what I am b/c I'm used to plus sizes being somewhat matronly. A friend of mine is doing the exact opposite, she's dropped 90 lbs and while she looks wonderful, she dresses like she's going out to a club all the time and wears skimpy outfits to the office.

I was just wondering if anyone else is having this problem. I've never been able to wear the cute, trendy clothes before and now that I am getting to that point, I seem to be having a mental block...sort of a "I know I can't wear anything in that store, so why even look?" When I could probably wear the clothes and they'd look better than the baggy stuff Im toting around now.

I get excited about hiting new sizes, but can't seem to get out of the 'I need to camouflage everything' mentality. Please let me know if anyone has experienced this and how you dealt with it. Thanks.

I know what you are talking about. The pants I am wearing to work are the same ones I was wearing 30 lbs ago. They are baggy and I can?t wear polo?s because I can?t tuck them in cuz the waist is too loose. I HAVE to go shopping for new work pants. I know I am going to have a problem when I pull out my old summer stuff because everything is a sleeveless shapeless top and they are going to be baggy on me. I went shopping at American Eagle and got a tube top. Haven?t ever owned one. I tried it on like three times and even left the tags on to show my sister and fianc?. I had to ask them if they thought it looked okay. I still feel a little strange about it I trust their judgment.

i have noticed that when i wear the old baggier clothes..(hey,, they fit like a glove when i bought em) they make me look dumpy and more importantly FEEL dumpy... when i invest in clothes now i buy inexpensive on sale stuff usually... then when i need to toss them i wont feel so bad... i gave me daughter about 6 pairs of jeans and pants... they are kinda short on her..(dang her long legs..*L*) but i felt great about her getting to use them since i had just bought them a few months back .. i doubt she will want my NEW lo rise flare jeans or lo rise boot cut jeans... but thats okay... they were pretty cheap on sale at penneys..
i DO however feel strange when something doesnt fit SNUG.. thats really odd for me.. because no matter what size i was wearing and going UP in size for.. they seemed to get tighter in the "wash" *L*
i find that even if i FRY my jeans in the dryer now.. they STILL fit.. heck .. i used to ALWAYS dry them out of the dryer and STRETCHED the waist of the jeans while wet so they would fit..
*whew*... what a confession THAT is..:-(

Ok I had this problem. Do this go to Goodys or Walmart. Try on Levi stretch jeans not regular jeans stretch ones. Pick out 2 sizes like when i did I tried a size 12 and 10. The 10 fit but I did feel good in the yet. The 12 was the greatest. Now I fit the size 10 regular fit jean and a size 8 stretch I am in and out of depending on bloating. Do this and you'll end up picking out a spring time shirts and a couple more hip up to date clothes and your style will change again I promise..You'll soon notice that though the scale says your still heavey that the clothes you wear are small. I don't know why that is but hey it makes me feel good so who cares.

Stacy 159 size 8-10 stretch

Boy can I relate! I have been hitting the resale shops and rummage sales for new jeans. When I started this WOE I wore a size 24 - and I mean tight. I am now in 18's or 20's depending on the brand.

I have a wonderful friend that bought me jeans at rummage sales when I first started Atkins. I cannot explain the great feeling of changing sizes and having them in my closet. Of course, I have gotten rid of all of the jeans that don't fit me anymore .

I also still have an image in my mind. I am probably driving my DH and my co-workers crazy asking if stuff looks ok.

Just think spring and try some hot new colors! But definitely ditch the old big stuff! You'll feel better and you will be suprised at the compliments that you will receive.

I am having the same problems....which is a nice problem...but all my pants and skirts I wear are at least two sizes too large and are so baggy and frumpy.

I have a skirt on today that if I didn't have a belt on to keep it up, it would fall down.

I have had to add extra holes to all my belts so I can keep wearing them.

With summer on the way, where I do not usually wear long pants, so I do not plan to buy anything new until Fall....if I can help it.

Sneezles - take from me as a reformed camoulflage wearer - you just need to see what the possibilities are before you go out and start shopping. This may sound really nutty, but it worked for me (I really wish they had adult grranimals). Check out the What Not To Wear book in the bookstore, or the Lucky build you closet book. Half the stuff in there I wouldn't even think of buying, but I found both to be so valuable in identifying different styles that would look good on me. It is soooo easy to fall into the trap of wearing the same old same old, merely because you don't know what the options are. Once you have an idea of the options, then you can plan what to look for. (I know, I am so weird, but I actually plan my wardrobe, down to the shoes and bags - I have such clothes horse tendencies, that if I don't I will end up spending a fortune, and none of it will go together).

One thing I learned from both of these books is that baggy is NOT slimming - ever. It is also always sloppy. Invest in some pants and a skirt or two that fit well. I like Banana Republic for A-line skirts that fit great, are the perfect length, hold up well and won't break the bank. Since you are still losing weight, consider buying just two pairs of pants, a skirt and a couple of tops - make sure they all go together, and that you can wear them anywhere - and that way you have some variety without breaking the bank. I like Target for this kind of wardrobe.

Good luck and keep us posted.

While I havn't gotten new clothes in a while(but I could use some), one of the things I have noticed is that I look in the mirror and still see me 47 lbs heavier. It wasn't until I found a picture taken about 2 years ago that I realized how much weight I actually have lost.... This maybe why we have a problem trying to figure out what looks best on our new bodies. Tho our bodies have changed, our heads are still seeing the old us in our minds eye.
Can be really confusing, that is probably why I havn't gone out for new clothes in a while.

me too. I was fine before, and only really saw how bad it was in photos.
then I started losing, and was fine.

this week, I really feel like I am looking lumpy and fat. I don't know why. My jeans still are about 5 inches too big in the waist - I'm doing Curves. Not even bloated. Just feeling fat.

but tonight I really need to hit the closet and get rid of some stuff. I've been avoiding it. Working from home, it really never matters. but I have a class out of town next week, and may need something *NEW*. and I used to like to shop, but can't seem to get into that anymore. not ready for the things I really want, so just putting it off.

Watch QVC for fashion ideas that aren't too frumpy.
When you're out and about watch for someone who has your current build and that you admire what they're wearing. Maybe you're scared that you might backslide and still need these clothes.
Go into a department store like Nordtroms and treat yourself to a well-cut blouse or slacks. I wear neutrals because I work in court and they're always proper. However, I buy well fitting well tailored pieces that lasts for years and years to the point of boredom sometimes. But I brighten them up with blouses, etc.
My number one rule is if you don't look good and feel beautiful in the garment, don't buy it no matter how cheap it is because that just adds to frump. Be proud of your health body.

I am have a problem buying any clothes, hate to buy them when i know i will only be using them for a couple of months and then they will be history. Also for some reason my mind wont let me purchase anything until im in a solid size 22, right now a 22 is tight, i guess about 10 more lbs and then i will be 22, my old size was 26. Half the clothes in my closet are useless to me right now, the other half are so loose and i really love my old clothes, lol. I was thinking of taking a sewing class and learning how to take in the sizes i have. Some i havent even worn yet, shoot, lol. Oh well, I'll find someone who can use them i hope.
