Default Erythritol products

just what products have you tried that use Erythritol ??? i want to make a mental note.. (okay i lied.. i want to make a WRITTEN note ) to know what items would be better to purchase in the sugar alcohol catagory..
i would prefer brand names .. it gets frustrating reading all the labels when i go with a 21 month grandson..*L*..

Kim, there just aren't a whole bunch of them yet - that I know of. The one I tried most recently is the Hersey's 1 carb (NOT the "sugar free" Hersey's, which is made with lactitol and tastes like ****) chocolate bars. These are not bad for a rare treat.

I think Hersheys did a pretty good job on the low carb bars. I like the choc/almond bar. and they have it divided up into 4 pieces so you can get by without a whole bar. yeah, right - that happens!!

I have tried Carbsense products with no ill effects. I found them on a LC website but did not try until I saw them in a health food store a few weeks back. They taste pretty good. I had the peanut butter and caramel bite sized candies. I also bought some erythritol and made Charski's fudge. Much tastier than any LC candy I've tried so far.

Is erythritol a carb free sugar alcohol or how does it compare to splenda or any others?

Welcome, Reid.

Erythritol is one of the many sugar alcohols out there. Many of the sugar alcohols raise the blood sugar levels of those who try them. Erythritol seems to be an exception.

Splenda (pure splenda, that is, not the packets or pourable variety) has zero effect on one's blood sugar. The packets and the pourable variety must, of necessity, be "diluted" with fillers. The fillers generally have a bad effect on blood glucose levels. Erythritol appears to be one of the few sugar alcohols which does not raise blood sugar in any significant way. Also, it does not appear to have much of a laxative effect.

There's a whole thread on those of us "self-testing" various low carb sweeteners. You can see it here.

The At last bars are pretty good. Made with erythritol, they come in one ounce bars. This is an ideal size to me - small! Here's a website link:

Kim - if you're wanting it in stuff like yogurt why not buy the erythritol and use it in plain yogurt? Or to sweeten iced tea?

I tend to like my iced tea unsweetened the last couple of years, but I would think that if you like sweet tea with mint, the erythritol would be a natural. It's already got a sort of "cool" feeling to it that would be unnoticed with mint. .... ummmm .... probably work ok in julep, too.

Just went out this evening and bought a Hershey's 1 carb bar.

Very Nice!

I ordered 2 packages of pure Erythritol and I'm trying to come up with some recipes. Specifically, I'd like to come up with a Honey Mustard sauce with the Erythritol. Any thoughts?
