Question ? for veggie experts

I bought this thing last week I thought was a spagetti squash. Then, in cutting it - it seemed more towards a pumpkin type of thing. Heck - I don't know.

I figured to go ahead and cook it up (nuked it), and used the fork just like the spag squash, just in case. It didn't seem like the spag I had done before, but more like the acorn squash texture. So just threw some cinnamon and a packet of splenda on it.

It was wonderful, but I have no idea what I ate.

It had the pumpkin type of stem on the top, and I don't remember that on the ones I bought before. But the outside is all yellow and smooth.

Can anyone help identify what it is, or was? :fork:

I just tasted the half I didn't flavor, and it is very, very sweet on its own. Could this be a Sugar Pumpkin? I searched on the web for squashes and this sounds close to what it looked like. I scraped and stored the rest of it for tomorrow. It is SOO good, but Im not sure what it is.

I would really like to know what it is too. Especially if it is sweet.

If you can find a photo of it online, we could identify it. Of course, if you find a photo, that will also answer your question.

I've tried. found this site:
http://www.vegparadise.com/highestperch212.html
It looked like a large spagetti squash, but had the stem and hardness of a pumpkin. all pale beige.
I had never heard of a 'sweet pumpkin' until I saw it here.
oh well - it's gone. and it was GOOD!!!! Probably high in carbs (sweet) - but darnnit - it was a veggie!!!

Yeah, looking at that one - could very well be. It was definitely sweet tasting.
can't find it on fitday, so no clue as to carb count. I can find squashes, but nothing specific on this.
Thanks all.

Mary Kay:

The banana squash is considered a winter squash (just like acorn squash) and is in the pumpkin family.

More information about the pumpkin/squash family can be found here, along with carb content.

I found this info by doing a search online for the Cucurbita maxima group, of which the banana squash is a member.

In short, any squash which has yellowish-orange insides, is already sweet without having to add a sweetner, and has seeds like pumpkin seeds is higher in carbs (like the acorn squash I ate the other day).

But, dang, they're good!

But they recommend the spagetti squash.... I'm confused.
I got a spagetti squash this time, and it isn't that much different, maybe I raised a fuss for nuttin.

Made up a little alfredo side dish tonight, but kept out about a cup of the squash noodles, threw on a Splenda and cinnamon. I'm having a veggie for DESSERT!! yum. I can handle this about once a week. It is good.
