You know, as a former restaurant owner, I see both sides of this. Unless that guy had posted somewhere that there were limits on portions, a buffet IS all-you-can-eat. If you put out that kind of meal, you have to be prepared for something like this to happen. But to refuse to leave until the police were called was wrong, too, in my view.
To me, the bad press this buffet owner got cost him far more than the roast beef did.

And I agree with you, Mary Kay...what, they didn't have a salad bar? Another situation where low carbers are viewed as meat-eaters only.

Reminds me of a local chinese restaurant that used to do a lunch buffet. They had chicken wings on the buffet and they had a few single farmers who used to come in and eat a couple heaping plates of wings only. You knew it had to be killing them pricewise at $2.99 per person(this was about 5-7 years ago) but they never stopped the farmers. They did eventually go out of business though.

i used to just CRINGE when young men and teen guys used to come in for all you can eat salad bar at my old pizza shoppe... the eat MASS QUANTITYS and it IS hard as a small business owner.. other peeves: people who piled a bunch on and left it .... parents who didnt control kids who decide it is fine to go and look and poke at stuff. EWWWWWWWWWWWWW and people who think its okay to grab stuff off the salad bar without paying for it... like it was extra toppings for their meal.. GRRRRRRRRR and even had one man who came in.. apparently took stuff with his FINGERS off the salad bar upstairs when the waitress was in the back... and then came to the takeout downstairs to say."i hope you dont mind i took *fill in the blank* off the salad bar.. i was hungry (a salesman).. i said HECK NO.. its still 6.95 for the salad bar no matter WHAT you took... grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr he just grinned and left..
this is probably why i am in the FURNITURE biz now instead..*L*

I think a point here overlooked is that after the guy was denied his 13'th slice of roast beef, he demanded his money to be refunded. I think that is asking a bit too much and if I was the manger of the restaurant, I wouldn't want him back.

cgilson... i dunno... maybe their mamas didnt raise em right..*sigh*.. i still think that the resturaunt has problems with its IT WASNT ALL YOU CAN EAT stance.. then why the heck did they wait till the 12th serving before saying no..*sigh*.. sorry... just playing the devil's(johnny cochran) advocate here... if it was up to even FIVE servings i prolly would have stepped in and gently mentioned it...as far as the refund deal.. hmmmm only time i ever had anyone ask for a refund was when they ordered several delux pizzas... drinks.. salad bars .. but then also one wanted hot wings.. WE ALWAYS cautioned custys that those bad boys were HOT not just a bit spicy... anywho they said they didnt like them and wanted their entire ticket free,,,, almost a hundred bucks... they threatened to walk out.. i told them i would love to get OFFICER FRIENDLY down here to work it out... they paid.. but ruined our day... also loved those people who wanted to pay for a dinner salad to go... and then wanted a huge styro box to fill to the brim .."whaaaaaaaaa? it isnt ALL YOU CAN EAT if i just get one serving." daaaaaaaaaaaaang... sorry yall.. bringin back some bad memories here..*L* I LOVE THE FURNITURE BIZ..*L* cudos to those of yall in the service industry ... its a bear!
