Default Your Personal Experience w/ Advantage Bars?

i've read all the warnings about atkins advantage bars (and other similar snacks/treats), but i'd like to hear if they have actually stalled any of you?

i have recently "discovered" the chocolate peanut butter bar ... and *gasp!* ... i kinda like them. i know, i am a bad LCer!

the bar wrapper lists sucralose (splenda) as the only sweetener is the ingredients list.
i haven't noticed any negative effects myself - however, i've been stuck at the same weight for a long time, even before eating these bars. (but i work out A LOT, have been losing inches, etc).

anyway, i'd just like to know if (and how) these bars may have negatively affected any of you ....
thanks!

I have been eating them a couple of times per week since I got out of induction and they never stalled me. My personal favorite is the Almond Brownie, the peanut butter one seems too dry, but is not bad with a coffee, lol.

I like them because I can carry one in my purse or keep one in my desk at work for an emergency snack. Not as wholesome as say some veggies and cheese but it is hard to carry the fresh stuff around at times. The bars are one of those YMMV items. They stall some people and not others.

Hey ladies,

The only reason Advantage bars (LOVE peanut butter bar) cause me to stall is b/c they trigger cravings. Carrie, you workout a TON and I firmly believe that if they don't cause cravings for you, then eat one when you want.

I honestly don't like the flavour of them very much, and they don't really seem to stall me. Just as long as I only have one or two a week!

What I really do prefer are the EAS "Advant Edge" bars. There are low-carb options, and they are really good! (never thought I would ever say that!) I just started trying those this week, and I haven't noticed a stalling effect...actually, I down another 1.4lbs!

I liked the Almond Brownie, but quit in Feb because I wasn't moving. I tried one again a couple weeks ago, and didn't like it at all anymore. My one weakness in the bars is the Adkins Morning Start Apple crisp. But then I was never a real chocolate/pb craver. So, I have this once in a while for an afternoon snack.

i like the mocha one... but it does seem to stall me... prolly cause i used it as a snack and not a replacement meal...i freeze it tho.. then only end up eating about half at a time... it goes further cause its harder to eat that way... but when they are straight off the shelf? ewwwwwwwww yuck.. texture is nasty..*L* so i am not tempted to carry those around with me for a snack.. ick..

I have tried the PB one in the past and didn't notice a stall from it. However, I count all the glycerin grams toward my carb count for the day too, so I think it weighs in as being 11 grams of carbs for me. I usually include sugar alcohol and glycerin counts in my net carb count for almost anything JUST IN CASE. Therefore, I only eat these bars if I know I am not going to be eating lunch. I haven't tried other brands because the ones I have seen have maltitol in them, which is a sugar alcohol, and they have it in large quantities (like 23 grams per bar), and I don't want to have to count that many non-good-carb carbs in my day! I haven't tried the other flavors yet...maybe I will branch out once I am back on track with my plan.

I have never had too much of a problem with those bars, either, but it is very rare I eat them (and sometimes, they can just be sooo dang expensive!) but if I am going to be away from home for a long time, I will carry a Keto Mini Bar with me - I prefer them over the others and it is just enough to satisfy my hunger...and if I'm not mistaken, I don't think they have as much sugar alcohol in them as some others...I can't remember now - haven't had those in a long, long time...

i personally like the advantage bars over any other bars. If you look at the nutrition on them they have amounts of fiber. Many of the other LC bars only have 1 gram of fiber if that! and the other bars say they are LC because of the subtracting of sugar alcohols. I prefer the peanut butter, chocolate decadence, and the cookies n cream. The cookies and cream and the peanut butter are a little dry but they deffinatly hit the spot when i want one. I haven't had any problems with them at all.

Thumbs down Re: Your Personal Experience w/ Advantage Bars?

I tried the cookies and cream one and thought it was nasty (oh man, there is no *gag* smilie) I took one bite and had to throw it away. Which is probably a good thing, since I don't really need to eat them anyway.

Add me to the list of people who don't seem to have a problem with the Atkins Advantage bars - so far, anyway.

I try to limit how many I eat for a number of reasons. I don't consider them to be "real food" (I think they're 1/2 way between real food and junk food), they don't satisfy my hunger for more than 1-1/2 to 2 hours, and they're expensive.

It seems that we all like the same 3 or 4 flavors. I've tried most of them and some are really awful.

Overall I think they really help me stick to my plan. Sometimes they are a convenience when I don't have anything better to eat or am too lazy to prepare anything else, and sometimes they are a treat when I want something kind of sweet. I would find low carb eating a lot harder to do without products like these.

Last time I had one for lunch, it actually kept me satisfied for about five hours, which surprised me. Of course, I was also really busy and didn't have a chance to think about food, which might have been part of it.

If you haven't tried the "Smores" flavor; you should. My DW likes them so much, she asked for a box of them for Easter; and she doesn't even follow a LC lifestyle. They are probably the best flavor of the Atkins Advantage line (IMHO..)
