Default Physical Exam Results ... Good! (I think ...)

hi there ...
went for a physical last week. was very pleased w/ the reading on the scale at the doctor's office. last year they had to slide the 50lb marker over (b/c i was over 150) ... and this year it was well under 150. yah!

besides that, my BP was 120/62 ... and that's good, right? last year it was pretty high - doctor was concerned that it had something to do w/ my BC pills and wanted to monitor it. so she was pleased w/ this recent reading.

lastly, i just got my cholesterol results ...
the doctor leaves a private recorded message for you (unless something is really wrong). anyway, she started out by saying "cholesterol was a touch high" .... total was 216. but the breakdown looked good - HDL = 58 and LDL = 137. she went on to say that after looking at the breakdown, she thinks everything looks good.

do you agree? am i at any risk since the total is >200?

Sounds like you're doing fine!

Weight down, blood pressure down to the low-normal range, and cholesterol Risk Ratio (Total/HDL) is 3.7. The goal is to aim for 4 or under and you're there.

I've always hovered around 200-220. Before I started this way of eating, my risk ratio was nearly 5. Over the years it has come down every time. Last checkup it was 2.3. My dr's are totally happy with that, and so am I.

Overall, it looks pretty good. Your LDL probably should come down a bit though.

As Maggie said, your ratio is good. As for your total (even though you shouldn't really be going by those any more) it is still in the upper limit of the OK range. I believe that 240 or above used to be the cut off before they began implementing the ratio.

You might want to have it checked again in about 6 months. Staying on plan should hopefully give you an improvement.

Whew! All these different topics on cholesterol has my head spinning! I will definitley check out that link, Maggie, and do some more research on this. Then, I can compare what all the experts say about this. Here I was thinking lower is better, and as long a you're under 200, you're okay...maybe not. I got an enzyme panel and some other bloodwork done at the E.R. in January, but it doesn't show cholesterol counts because they were not "critical" information for my situation at the time. Bummer. Methinks it's time for a new test!

your bp looks good to me. as a rule of thumb, the way remember from when i worked in detox, anyway, was expect the top number to be about your age plus 100. anything lower than that is good.

and for the lower number, low is good too. you don't want it to be too close to the top number...(actually, when the two numbers get too close was when our detox clients had seizures and stuff, but of course that's a difference situation...these people's bodies were under serious stress and severe alcohol withdrawl can cause seizures)
