Question "Come for Pizza" -- help!

My neighbors have invited me over tonight for an informal dinner, which will consist of a local restaurant's (justly) famous vegetable pizza. I can't decline for personal reasons. There will only be three of us, so bringing an alternate entree under the guise of making a contribution to the party isn't an option. I'm sure this has happened to others! My question is, would it be considered rude if I just ate the toppings? I don't mind eating veggies and cheese and even some tomato sauce, but draw the line at the crust! (BTW, there will be salad, but I still have to deal with the pizza).

Honest is the best policy!! Maybe have something to eat before you go...so that you are not very hungry and get tempted by the pizza!! Have a big salad....and sure just eat the toppings! If they ask....be honest!

Actually, I've been in several social situations where I do eat just the toppings. I don't make a big issue of it, and the few people that have noticed made only positive comments about it, especially since they've noticed my weight loss.

Don't be embarrassed to eat the way you feel comfortable. If you're at ease with the way you eat, others will be too. Concentrate on the social situation instead of how to eat and you'll be able to relax and have fun. I wouldn't be surprised if you educate a person or two about eating LC while doing it, too.

Enjoy!

bring some LC tortillas w/ you, put the toppings on em and eat the pizza that way.
you'll have to tell them your LCing, or they might think you're being strange ...
don't fret - i'm sure they'll have lots of ?'s and it'll strike up a nice conversation.
have fun!

... or be funny, or weird, or vague or all four. Tell them you're alergic to carbs, they make you break out in fat. Or tell them you're abstaining from flour for religious reasons. Or tell them you're boycotting wheat as a political statement against "big agribusiness." If all else fails, tell them you have blood sugar issues. ( << say this in a hushed voice, and look at your shoes, or with a sigh and look heavenward. ) Or make up you own interesting reply to spark (or end) conversation as you eat the toppings off the pizza.

Just some further choices for your consideration.

I came to the conclusion a while back that the world is full of picky eaters...... I can be one, too. Just eat what you want and leave the rest. If they ask, tell them you don't eat bread. It's simple and honest. Heck, I've even done it with high school kids. They look at me funny, then accept that I'm their weird teacher and move on.

Thanks to all! I did pretty much as all of you suggested. I had the salad, and took two pieces of pizza, then calmly separated the topping from the crust, and ate the topping. BTW, it was perfectly LC...sausage, pepperoni, proscuitto, cheese, and peppers, and very little tomato sauce. At the end of the meal there were two naked pizza crusts, and no one said a word!! Guess I was fretting over nothing. And, this morning the stix were still pink! Thank you all for your support.

good for you! glad you didn't sway from your plan.
i, too, had pizza (toppings) last nite w/ BF! one of my favorite meals - especially dominos, b/c they don't use much sauce! yum!

good job! heck.. before this woe i used to always get grief from the employees where iworked during our PIZZA meetings... back then i never ate anyting BUT the crusts.. they constantly were making fun of me for that.. wanted to get me just breadsticks (didnt work) all i wanted was the crust with a tiny bit of the sauce ... wouldnt THEY laugh now if they saw me leaving the crust and eating the toppings like i do! i have to agree..there ARE alot of picky eaters... you just eat what YOU want and dont worry about them... ya might even ask them next time "what stuff do YOU leave on your plate when you eat out?" you might be surprised.. my husband will pick out EACH and EVERY grain of rice if someone accidently gives him rice and beans instead of DOUBLE BEANS... my brother used to drive my dad NUTS when he would take a knife and cut off even the TINIEST bits of fat off meat..*L* my daughter is a vegetarian... my mom used to say.. but honey.. cant ya just eat CHICKEN? *L or beef. or *L* well you get the drift...
my other daughter pickes off every hint of tomato off any salad..
point is... when YOU are comfortable eating what you want... it shouldnt make any difference to anyone else...

This forum is too funny! Maggie you should do stand up! And Lisa I about lose it when I read that you "Z" doesn't work on your keyboard! LOL !!!!!!
Rgafner~~~~ If they were serving something that you didn't like....would you eat it save face? Probably not, I am someone to take half of a half of sub and eat the insides and leave the rest. Not very much different from pizza. If asked...I would say, " Ah I am trying to stay away from white bread and flour. That is all but, this salad is great!

Keep us informed on what you did.
