Default Confused about adding carbs.

Hi everyone.
I have read Atkins book again and realized I should be moving into new phases of the program, but I am confused about it. Even when I was within 20g of carbs a day, I was still losing very slowly! I just weaned my 16month old 2 weeks ago...I only need to lose about 10-12 more pounds...I walk every day...I've cut out the Atkins bars...but it still seems like I am barely losing a pound a week. What is the deal? I read that maybe adding more carbs might help, but with such a slow loss in the past, I am not sure I will even be able to measure any success. Should I just stay within 20grams still?
Thanks, Shannon

I actually lost more when I started to add the carbs (good ones) back in. Start with berrys, nuts or more veggies. It worked for me and I was also concerned about adding them in. Best wishes! You are so close to goal. Congratulations.

Shannon,

Definitely, up your carbs.

Unfortunately, if you don't have a lot to lose, it comes off more slowly, but 1lb per week is pretty good, and a lot more than I've been losing! Add carbs by increasing veggie servings, and adding small servings of nuts and low glycemic fruits (berries are a good start). Also read: low carb fruit
The slow loss is good in a way...It prepares you to eat healthy for life and gets you out of the quick-fix mentality we sometimes approach a diet with.

shannon-you're not doing anything wrong! you can experiment as the others here have suggested and may find you're happier with the results, but the bottom line is with only about 10 lbs to lose, 1 poind a week is GOOD. even folks who have a lot more to lose, anything that's steady is good.

is it fast enough for us? never! but that doesn't mean you're not doing very well.

your body is going to do what it wants to and what's right for you anyway if you give it half a chance. so if you feel good physically and you're losing weight, rejoice! don't second-guess your progress and don't forget that you are making progress! keep on keeping on, lady!

It is absolutely critical you need to add a few carbs as you reach your goal. Your body needs to know that it has a steady food supply coming in now and for the forseeable future. If not, it will do all it can to hang on to that last 5 - 10 pounds. One sure way is the berries mentioned, and lots of salad. In your case, the saying "if its green its clean" should be in full effect, and complex, fiber-filled, nutrient dense carbohydrates should have absolutely no effect on you. 1 pound a week that close to goal is outstanding. You have nothing to fret about.

Thank you everyone for your replies. I did go to the store today and came home with some almonds, more salad components, and some extra vegetables. I would love to agree with you about the berries, but I am a stay at home mom, and I would have to get a job in order to afford berries. Strawberries are coming into season, but they still are not quite worth the money. I'll let you know how it goes. I'm continuing to walk pushing my 3 1/2 year & 17month old in the double jogging stroller (appx. 80 pounds to push), so I think that will really give me a challenge.
I am so glad I started this WOE. Before Atkins I was afraid to go walking because I would get very dizzy and feel like passing out, but now I have more energy and my blood sugar is more stable for longer periods of time.
Glad to be here...
Shannon
