I think CLA is a part of my multi-oil supplement that I take...but I don't know if I have noticed any benefits from it. An interesting thing is that Jonny Bowden doesn't recommend its use. It has been shown to cause a higher incidence of diabetes and heart disease in obese men. I just looked it up in his book "Living the Low Carb Life," which is my supplement "Bible." Hmmm...I wonder what that is all about...anyone else have any information on this?

FYI...the other two supplements he doesn't recommend are flaxseed oil, due to possible links between alpha linoleic acid intake (found in flaxseed oil) and prostate cancer (clearly only an issue for men...women can take this safely) and vanadium (vanadyl sulfate), due to the fact that the benefits from them occur at very, very high doses, and no one knows for sure what would be a toxic dose. He feels that one may someday be a great addition to the list of supplements, but for now it should only be used if you have an insulin disorder and are under the supervision of a nutrition-trained physician.

This information is all paraphrased from his book.

I don't take the oil, but I do have flax meal in the form of Maggie's Cereal. It almost makes me worry a bit, but I am probably too young to come down with cancer. I wonder if flax seeds/meal cause the same problems. Anyone know?

The speculation is that it's a rancidity issue with the oil. That generally isn't as prevalent with flax seed. If you buy the seeds and grind them yourself and don't allow them to get old, you'll be fine.

I took CLA for about 2 months but I do not think I saw any difference.

The problem was that I was also working out 5 times a week and taking a multi-vitamin and fish oils. So its hard to tell...

I co-worker of mine took it for 2 months also and he reported no difference.
