Default A couple of Qs

I started the Atkins diet about 2 or 3 weeks ago. I absolutely hate salad and only eat one every 2 or 3 days. Mainly I'm eating lots of meats and cheeses. I drink nothing but water. Lots and lots of water and I take a multi-vitamin once or twice a day. I'm exercising by walking my dogs and intense weight lifting but my weight loss seems to be going slower than most people. What will help?

I remember reading the book and it said to stay away from organ meat. I have been eating brats, but they only have 2 carbs. Are they still really bad for this diet?

Should I not eat after 7 p.m or so? I work in a bar so some nights I don't get home till 5 or 6 in the a.m. What I've been trying to do is eat a small meal (for ex. 1 hamburger patty with only salt and pepper and maybe a slice of cheese, or a brat with mustard, or a chicken breast with salt and pepper, or a small steak with soy sauce) every 3 hours or so.

Can anyone help me? What am I doing wrong and what should I be doing differently.

Belle,

First off, why don't you post a few days' typical menus? Include everything you eat and drink, including condiments, sweeteners, etc. This will help us to trouble shoot.

The one thing I see that stands out: Where are your veggies? Atkins is a low-carb plan, not a NO-carb plan. Your carbs should be coming from legal lc veggies, and you should be trying to get as close to the 20g carb per day as possible, while on induction. Veggies doesn't necessarily have to mean salad.

Also, you may want to limit processed meats, such as brats, sausage, bacon, hot dogs, lunch meats; these are full of sodium and additives. Some even contain sugar.

I would venture to say you're not eating enough, quantity-wise, either, but it's hard to tell without seeing a couple full days' worth of what you eat.

Hope this helps.

belle- well, i usually reccomend people pick a program and try it out...which means generally getting a book, for whichever you pick. or getting another if you no longer have it.

regarding weight loss, lifting bulks muscle, which weights more than fat although is more compact. so the scale will not move so much as inches may drop. if you're not eating salad very often, make sure you're eating some kind of vegetables.

and the folks that don't eat late at night will normally abstain so their body can process a bit before hopping into bed. it doesn't really work the same if you're not going to bed at 10 or 11pm...

it's really worth it to get the book, again if you don't have it anymore. i got atkins, atlhough other folks have different preferences. it's maybe 5 or 6 bucks, it explains how everything works, and then once you know the principles, you can make your own modifications as desired to see what works for you.

Welcome, bellevegasj.

Wonderful advice above! This isn't the "meat & cheese" diet, no matter how the media portrays it. LOL!

Have you lost any weight during your three weeks? and how much is it that you feel you need to lose? Initial weight loss is generally faster, the more one needs to lose. The closer one is to a normal weight range, the slower it goes.

Tell us a bit more about what you're doing.

Meantime, make yourself at home!
