| I was just wondering if anyone out there has ever had a colonic to kinda clean out their...um...insides. A friend of mine goes for a colonic a few times a year, and swears by it. The doctors and other wise folk say that some people carry up to an extra 10lbs just with waste rotting on the interior of your organs. I've been thinking about it...although the notion isn't too pleasant. Admittedly, I do fast a few times a year with cranberry juice and apples to clean out my insides, and it seems to work well...the thought of rotting chicken parts glued to my intestines doesn't seem very romantic, but I'm curious if getting a colonic will get rid of anything that was left behind. I'm just wondering if anyone has had experiences with this...positive or negative. Would you ever consider a colonic? If not, why not? -Buzzy |

| I think if you eat enough fiber it shouldn't be a problem. No sense getting grossed out by the natural processes in our bodies--I'm sure there are plenty of disgusting things in there! |

| I would not have a colonic...it sounds uncomfortable and gross to me, but that is just me. I know there are people who swear by them, though. Having said that, I do belive there is icky stuff up there that couldn't possibly be good for us, so twice a year I use a product called CleanseSmart made by a company called RenewLife. Supposedly does the same thing, a little more gently and over the period of a month. I think it's great, adn I always feel better after. I think in today's world no matter what we eat there is going to be residues of cehmicals, etc and a cleanse is a good idea. Good luck whatever you decide.

| The mucosa of the large colon does not "retain" anything, unless the individual suffers from diverticulosis, then ... sometimes ... some fecal material might be retained in these abnormal outpouchings. Most people do not have diverticulosis. I base that statment on everything I've learned and observed during my first career. I've seen dozens and dozens of colons, inside and out, during surgery and colonoscopies. Enemas, high or low, upset the normal flora of the large intestine. The main thing one can do to promote a healthy colon is to eat lots of fiber, especially in the form of vegetables and lc fruits. JMHO.
