| And still nothing. Once the scale said I was a pound lighter, but mostly it said the same or a pound higher. I'm just not losing weight at this point. Very frustrating. I ate induction level, got more exercise, but to no avail. I can't exercise very much because it's not good for me. I can't quit low carbing because I'm doing it for my health, not just for weight loss--I have a condition that responds well to low carb. Plus it helps stabilize my blood sugar. But I would like to lose weight as well. I don't plan to stay at induction any longer because I just don't think it's going to help. Besides, it seems to cause constipation no matter how much water you drink, and I drink plenty, and get lots of fiber, besides. I'm pretty sure I got the hiatal hernia because of eating low carb, which is also a frustration. At this point I am 21 pounds lighter than when I started in December, and have the hernia. Doesn't seem like a very good deal overall. Plus I have only lost a few inches and one size. |

| I tried that with no impact either. Now I'm working on keeping the protein down, and raising the carbs up to around 50/day. and staying away from that stupid scale for a week. Raising carbs is hard when for 5 months been staying at 25-35. may just not have been enough. Hoping it may make a difference. I'm sorry you got the HH. I had one before I started, but haven't been bothered with it - but then again I am on Nexium every day. Tried to stop that for a few days, but then looking for the tums again. I don't mind the little pill. My numbers are a little better, 30 since 1/2 - but I have been exercising more than I have in years and have seen a little better return on the body size.

| You might try varying your carbs every other day. 50 one day and as much as 75 to 100 the next. Be sure you are drinking at least 90 ozs of water, and keep up your exercise. I found that if I ate my carbs this way I began to lose again. Long stalls are not unheard of. I've stalled for as much as three months at a time. Don't get discouraged. Your body will get used to induction level carbs, or any level carbs if you eat them day after day. The idea of Atkins (at least as I have experienced it) is that you are not hungry. But, keep eating "legal" foods. There are others on the forum who have stalled for up to six months or a year. There are also a lot of suggestions about how to break a stall. The egg fast is one. I did it and lost about four pounds in 24 hours. Eat only eggs for a day, while still drinking your water. Peace, Peg 1/1/03 205/174/155 5'8" |

| Hi, Terra, I just want to ditto the varying carbs days, i stalled for 3 weeks( and i know thats not long compared to some peoples stall ), but it was enough for me to take different actions, I didnt increase my exercise, because i knew it was something that i wouldnt be able to stick to in the long run, so i decided to give the high/low carb days a try and it worked for me. some days i will have as much 100 carbs and then some days under 20, not very many under 20 and not very many at 100, but enough to trigger a loss. in a typical week, 1 day at 100, 1 at 20 and the rest between 50-80. I have read that several people tried this and it worked for them as well. good luck and i hope your stall ends real soon.

| I might try that. Maybe I haven't raised my carbs enough...except that you're supposed to raise them until you stop losing, then back down a bit. Well, I stop losing at around 35 carbs, so it's frustrating. I supposed I could try to go higher and see what happens. |

| Terra, I did too--at about 40-42, but I have found that I actually lose til around 50+ then I start to slow dramatically but if I alternate higher days and lower days so that the week averages out to around 40 or 45 net carbs a day I do great--much faster than I had been. I dont' necessarily go really high--but one day might be 60 and the next 30 and the next 45 and then a 22 and so on but the average of all of them added up is usually around 40-45 and I am doing awesome. I am swimming 2-3X a week and walking almost every day too! Keep it up! you will do great!

| My two cents... I posted last week that I was going back to Induction for two weeks to get focused and see if I could break the magic 180lb mark that has always been a hard barrier for me (I was up a few pounds too...). My target is 175lbs. Results so far... down .5 lbs (actually gained a lb or two at the beginning but I think it was from excess salt I had consumed...). I'm assuming now that I'm at a "set point". I was 185lb through college and a good chunk of my life before I ballooned up to 220lbs. I'm now sitting at 184 (been there for a good while...). Normally, if I increase my work outs or reduce my carbs I keep losing. Not this time... It's Ok. I'm getting comfortable with it for now. I have lost 18 lbs since New Year's and 36 lbs over all. I think the points people have made about cycling carbs and etc are worth trying... just to see. Different things work for different people. My only issue is that it seems to take me so long to drop the weight I put on when I cycle carbs...

| Wolfman: If you are at a set point, you might need to stay there for a while. I've been staying in the 170's now for six months or so. It's taken a while for my skin to catch up with my loss and fit me again. When I realized that was happening, I had much more patience with it. Also, I don't gain while cycling carbs. I wonder it you are adding too many, or not enough. It's a YMMV thing that's for sure. Peace, Peg 1/1/03 205/171/155 5'8" |
