Question How does one count the number of inches lost?

I took my measurements today for the first time in a while and was pleased with the results. My mother wanted to know how well I'm doing and I ended up reading the list to her as her eyes glazed over. :P

I'd like to tell her, "I've lost X number of inches!" and pretty much be done with it.

Which measurements are *usually* added together to get a total number of inches lost? I would assume they would include chest (bust), waist and hips. Do you add in the upper arm loss? How about the thighs? Am I missing bits of anatomy that I should be measuring?

I measure chest--right under the arm pits, bust projection, waist, abdomen (where I carry my most weight), arms (upper), hips and thighs. I have lost a total of 25 inches off those parts alone! I measure other parts too--but those are the ones I have been keeping track of the whole time!

Good question. I don't know if there's a right way, but I measure my neck, upper arms, chest, waist, hips, thighs and calves. I add up TOTAL LOSS, including measurements from both sides of my arms and legs. A loss is a loss, right?!

Thumbs up Re: How does one count the number of inches lost?

There's really no right or wrong--it's what is important or works for you. However, the more places you measure, the more you can be aware of your body's changes. Sometimes you lose inches in the darndest places!!!

I used to only measure the "usual" places, but a month or so ago I started keeping track of my measurements on www.mybodycomp.com. I really like it since it tracks "everything" and then calculates my body fat percentage. It's free.
