| I am having a hard time getting in all the vege's I need for my daily intake. Most greens are very low in carbs so I have to eat alot of veges to reach the carbs required. Recently I have found that I have had to start eating vege's higher in carbs including carrots and squash. I also bought some frozen veges with baby corn, 1 cup = 10 carbs. Is this a no no. I sure could use some advice on this. I am now at between 35 and 45 carbs per day. Hugs Nancy |

| I would say that as long as you are still losing, it isn't a no-no! However, some of the Atkins veterans on here might be better able to answer this. I am not that far in the book yet!

| AT that number--you can add one or two higher carb veggies, but be aware that they can also spike the blood sugar more than those on the eat regularly list! Greens are low in carbs and almost all of it is subtradted in fiber--so it is hard tog et enough in--things like squash or the baby corn occasionally will boost your intake without adding significant calories which may later on be an issue for you. try them a time or two then decide if they work for you. I can eat corn on the cob occasionally without issue--I can eat watermelon every few days, but if I go back to back with a couple of higher carb things two or three days in a row, I ask for problems!

| I assume since you posted in the Atkins OWL forum that you are, indeed, following the Atkins plan, and that you are beyond Induction. Therefore, I proffer this: The higher-carb vegetables you mention, corn, carrots, and squash, also happen to be on the high glycemic end. In short, they contain natural sugars and after ingesting them, your body may react as if it has consumed real sugar, knocking you out of ketosis. Dr. Atkins specifically mentions in DADR that during the OWL phase, you can add in vegetables, but that corn is on his forbidden list (see pages 140 and 146). Personally, I would choose not to eat the high glycemic vegetables, and would, instead, eat more higher-carb green vegetables, such as green beans and broccoli. Eat at least 3 cups of low glycemic vegeyables each day such as a combination of lettuce, spinach, radishes, celery, cucumbers, green peppers, et cetera. My two cents...
