    Default A dinner EVERYONE liked...

    ...for a change! I finally found something to fix for dinner that the kids loved, and John and I did could eat, too, since it was compeltely low carb.

    I have a huge crock pot and I filled it with Tyson's frozen chicken wings and legs. I added 1 cup of soy sauce (no carbs), 2 teaspoons of garlic powder and onion powder each, 1 teaspoon of ginger, and then I added some brown sugar Sugar Twin and Splenda.

    I cooked those suckers on high for 5 hours and we dug in. They were so good, the kids wanted more. I served steamed broccoli as a side dish, and then the kids ate sugar-free jello for dessert (although they didn't know it was sugar-free ).

    It feels great to finally find something low carb that everyone will eat.

    Wait a minute....I just looked soy sauce up on fitday, and it said approx 20 carbs for a cup with 1g fiber, for a net of 19 carbs.
    April, which kind do you use that is carb free? I need to look for some.

    thanks,

    i live in the boonies and i found brown sugar twin locally.. i tried it for pork rinds trying to make them with cinnamon and brown sugar.. (EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW by the way.. awful... toooo sweet or .. SOMETHING.. guess i have never been one to like sugar substitutes).. but if i CONCEAL the taste with SOY...hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm that might just work.. otherwise i have a box of brownsugar twin you can have..;-)

    The soy sauce I use:

    Kikkoman naturally brewed soy sauce:
    Calories = 10
    Fat = 0
    Sodium = 920
    Carbs = 0
    Protein = 2

    Ingredients:
    Water, wheat, soybeans, salt, sodium benzoate.

    Lots of sodium, but diffused with 38 legs/wings, one cup isn't so bad, especially since most of the stuff stays in the crock pot.

    Yes, Lou....unfortunately, anything marked "light" has sugar and other fillers which make up for the fat and other things they take out.

    For instance, low-fat dressings....to make up for the fat taken out, they add sugar.

    Exchanging one evil for another. Go figure.

    That sounds yummy!

    But I must say, I do believe soy sauce has carbs :(

    The USDA site says 1 per tablespoon which would translate into 16 for a cup. Of course, if you're just cooking in it you probably don't really eat much of it.

    Marcie's right on the carbs in the soy sauce, but I don't see how you'd get that many unless you drank all the merinade! Sounds awesome, April, I'm gonna make it myself this weekend.
