Default Spaghetti Squash

I just about give up. No matter how I make it, it does NOT resemble spaghetti in any shape, form or fashion. It tastes like a nice, kinda stringy, winter squash, but spaghetti... forget it.

This last time, I put some Alfredo sauce on it. I managed to gag it down. ugh... I ate the rest of the squash with only simple butter, salt, and pepper and it was rather tasty.

I'm also having trouble figuring out what to do with chayote squash. I love the regular "summer squash" they sell at the store, the little flat daisy-shaped green ones. I cook that by boiling it for ten minutes, then draining it, mashing it, and frying it. I tried doing that with chayote, because it's supposed to be another type of summer squash, but after 40 minutes, it hadn't become mushy enough. It tasted pretty good, similar to summer squash, but it's not worth the extra time unless I can figure out a better way of preparing it.

i guess my i have the same feelings you do... the only way i was able to eat it w/ out gaging was w/ marinara and meatsauce... and i had to cook the begepers outa it... i have ate it more than a dozen times.. but it takes so much work and i end up throwing 1/2 of it away beacuse none else will eat it.. I tried freezing it... have asked on here if you can do that... well it didnt work for me... it came out a mushy mess w/ a TON of water...

I think my fav squash things are zuchini and yellow squash in a few diffrent ways... like mixed in a stirfry... or even tossed in soups..

for those who love spag squash good for you... I'm sorry i just cant make it to my likeing....

I've tried it also, and agree.. simply don't care for it. i like most all the squash simply sauted in a little butter, altho, if you REALLY develop a sweettooth, check out the recipes and try the "Squash Dessert" recipe I just sent in.. it is made with yellow squash and is a low carb version. Tastes like a custard, not a squash. Great way to use squash, get your veggie, and dessert both at once!

When I tell people about spaghetti squash I make sure I tell them it is nothing like pasta. To me it is too sweet tasting for a red sauce. It is not bad if you make carbonera (alfredo sauce -heavy cream, butter and real parmesan), ham or bacon and a little zucchini instead of peas.

My personal favorite way to eat it however, is after it is cooked, heat a little heavy cream with some butter pour over the squash, sprinkle with nutmeg to taste and toss, yummy. (You can do this without the cream).

not like spaghetti at ALL.. way too sweet...but if you stop trying to make it into something it clearly is not... you might just love it.. its sweet.. like a yam or something to me... i like it fried with onions and bell peppers... (ala hash browns) darlin honeymoon loves it.(not doing low carb ) i have even added a bit of the atkins bake mix & egg to give it a little more substance.. but as SPAGHETTI?? no way..

I only had it once. I cut it in half, cleaned the seeds out and nuked it. I thought it was very tastey. I have not bought it again because one squash would cost 4-5 dollars.

Next year they will be in my garden.

I watch the Low Carb and Lovin' it show and he made spaghetti squash and it looked JUST LIKE spaghetti. I think the trick is when you boil it you have to put it in ice water for a little whil after you take it out. It might explain how to get the spaghetti look on his site on the food network website. Try there. I don't remember how long you have to leave it in the ice water. I will try and remember to look at it when I get home. I saved it on my TiVo!
