| I had a choice to make last night and I ended up not making it because I didn't know which one to chose and it was probably a better thing that I didn;t chose because it was already 10:00 at night. BUT if it had been during the day time which would have been a better choice? (I think I already know the answer but I want some extra input) cinnamon roasted Walnuts in butter made w/ splenda and stevia no carbs (probably count as 2) 210 calories? Or 100% whole wheat bread 60 calories 6 carbs. I would have put butter on the bead and made it toast. |

| The walnuts would have been a better choice.

| You know, I really only ask because those walnuts are SOOOO good they feel WAY too bad! They feel WAY worse than a piece of bread! I thought they would have been but like I said they feel SO bad. Thanks for the response! |

| Yes, I agree. I think calories do matter when you are close to or at goal, but for me, I would have been satisfied much longer with some of the walnuts whereas I would have been hungry immediately after eating the toast, so eventually would have ended up eating more than the 210 calories in the walnuts.

| the nuts definetly win, in the long run they pack more benefits and are well worth the extra calories than the bread. Ive been realizing the same thing with this conscienceness of food, a lot of the stuff that we have been conditioned to think is bad is actually really really good for us, and supposed good stuff is actually bad. I'll give a couple of examples, how long have we been told to chose margarine over butter. And i cant count the number of times ive had low fat dressings, all that time i sacrificed taste only to be eating what was not best for me, darn it.

| I am assuming that since you posted in the Atkins OWL forum that you are following Atkins. It really boils down to one choice: is bread on the approved Atkins food list? Are walnuts on the approved Atkins food list? The choice is clear: walnuts are on the food list, bread is not. Even in phase four of Atkins -- Lifetime Maintenance -- Atkins says that bread should be avoided or eaten rarely. Stick with the nuts. This isn't about counting calories, it's about controlling carbohydrates and limiting them.

| Absolutely WALNUTS!! Due to their high good-fats content and wonderful CRUNCH they will definitely keep you satisfied MUCH longer than one measly little ol' piece of toast - even WITH butter, IMHO. They are also a good source of Omega-3 oils which are so good for us - the only nut that contains them, from what I read recently. Char

Well, I agree that walnuts probably may be the better choice as they are less likely to induce food cravings. But, being aware of the calorie impact of legal LC foods is a very good skill, IMO; especially for those who are near their goal weights. I think you are wise to take the time to think about such decisions, so WELL DONE! :great:

| Thanks Teelbee! It's a work in progress I'm trying to come back. Those walnuts are just soooooooo good w/ cinnamon and splenda and butter!! I figured the walnuts would be better BUT there were SO many calories in the walnuts (not to mention the butter that I cooked them with) that the bread w/ only 60 calories got me to wondering. No the bread is just Nature's Own. Maybe it's 7 carbs but it's no more than that I know I want to say 9 carbs and 3 fiber...I'm flying to LA next week and I am going to make sure I have my own snacks. I'm flying in first class though, so maybe they'll give me whatever I want. I could demand LC snacks! hahaha |

| Thats the same bread that i eat, its not labeled as low carb, its 10 gr of carbs, with 3 grams of fiber, 7 net carbs per slice and its soooooo much better than the low carb thinly sliced breads. Of all the whole wheat/ whole grain breads ive come across its the lowest in carbs.
