| Macias - If you like a hint of cinnamon in your coffee, you MUST try the "Extra Fancy Vietnamese Cinnamon" from Penzey's Spices - it is TO DIE FOR. I know, what's so different? EVERYTHING. Much more pungent and complex in flavors, more "spicey" if you will. Order a bottle, you will not be disappointed.

| We were discussing this thread at work today, and my bosses asked why I put up the Green Mountain link instead of our website. (We ship coffee and supplies worldwide.) I told them we can't advertise on this site. But I guess anyone interested in purchasing coffee and/or coffee supplies over the internet (at great prices!) can private message me. We have shipped coffee several times to different U.S. Military troops stationed in Iraq and Afganistan. They let us stick cards and notes in the cases before they are sealed. Pretty neat. NOTE: the troops drink ALOT of coffee! I'm quite sure it is essential to be awake (when you need to be) over there! P.S. I edited out some of this post to ensure that I am not violating the "NO advertising" rule. I hope this is okay.

| Well, as I've mentioned in another thread, I've done my low-carbin' caffeine-free, and I'm doing it caffeine-drenched. I avoided caffeine for years for reasons not related to dieting. (I tend to have enough problems controlling my sleep patterns, during the best of times.) Atkins has long advised against caffeine. The rationale makes sense: One premise of the Atkins diet is that stabilizing blood sugar helps you control your appetite, and therefore, any foreign substance, like caffeine, that can raise your blood sugar is to be avoided. However, I have experienced a new burst of weight loss while drinking coffee. I know that many others on the forum have had little trouble with coffee. Caffeine itself tends to be an appetite depressant and to increase thermogenic burning. So these things may balance out or work as an advantage. Even when I was caffeine-free, I used to notice that those few times that I got a little caffeine, like, drinking a leaded diet coke at the movies, I would have much darker Ketostix the next day. This was just about always repeatable. If I had something with caffeine in it, even chocolate Soy Slender, my Ketostix became darker. Now, a change in Ketostix color is not necessarily proof of increased rate of weight loss, but it is interesting. At least, the increased darkness makes me feel okay about drinking coffee. I was worried that the few carbs in the coffee might blow me out of Ketosis, but the sticks come back so dark and nice, and I AM losing weight again, after a 9 month stall, I feel pretty good about things. The new weight loss might be less related to the caffeine stimulation than to the fact that I'm drinking coffee instead of snacking on legal foods so much.

| Coffee!!! I LOVE the stuff!!! Can't go a day (or start one!) without it. My favorite is Starbuck's Verona, too...smooth, robust, flavorful. It's a blend of their Yukon coffee, with 20% Italian roast added for sweetness and depth. And their Sulawesi is great for a bolder coffee; complex, earthy, with herbal notes, and a real kick-in-the-pants morning cup. I don't add anything but a splash of cream to my coffee; no sweetener, no flavorings, but will put a little cinnamon in the brew basket on occasion. Marcie, you are dead right about Penzey's cinnamon. It's a whole 'nother animal from the supermarket stuff. Could I lose faster if I gave up coffee? Maybe, but we may never know. I have been known to use cold coffee to make protein shakes...now, there's a tasty little quickie meal. Coffee, a splash of cream, Splenda, whey protein powder and ice in the blender. Tastes like coffee ice cream.

| There's a roaster in New Mexico called Rio Grande Roasters with the most wonderful blend called Thunderbolt. You'd think it would be the liquid equivalent of a wrecking ball upside the head, but it's wonderfully smooth and still bold. It's available in bean form at the local Sam's Club in 3 lb. bags for some ridiculously low price. Just amazing stuff. We're now in North Carolina and of course Sam's doesn't carry it here. I bought five, count 'em, five bags before we left and we're just coming to the end of the last one. Time to search out a new supplier! anya |

| Hey, Trina! Don't you look MARVELOUS! I'm good. Life's been Big Change and Intermittent Chaos for the last eighteen months, and I fell off the wagon so long ago it's in another state by now, but all in all life is good. I've been lurking here off and on, and finally signed in as myself. I'll be around more, I think, even if only to hear some familiar and cheerful voices. anya |

| Wow! I can't believe how LONG this thread is! I am so glad to know I am in good company about my "coffee addiction" lol. I have not ever given up my coffee, even on induction. I just got back from a 6-day camping trip/music festival where my nightly treat was coffee with cream and I actually LOST 2 pounds! My DH works for a vending service who does coffee and he brings home their house blend, Starbucks and Green Mountain. I am soooo lucky! I usually go Maxwell House in the a.m. and for a treat in the evening, usually decaf flavored with some DaVinci's syrup and cream. I definately use coffee as a snack or treat, too. ROFL about the TOP TEN list!

| Another good one for those of you near a Whole Foods market (Bread and Circus in New England) is the Pleasant Morning Buzz coffee (it's a whole foods offering).

In the mornings when I get up at 5:30am, the first thing I get is my 16-ounce styrofoam cup and fill it with water, pop it into the microwave for 1:45, go to the bathroom while the water heats up, and then add a heaping spoonful of instant coffee, a dash of heavy whipping cream, and 3 packets of Sweet-n-Low. I have the exact same concoction when I get home from work. On weekends, I make Millstone hazelnut coffee or the Swiss Chocolate Almond -- my favorite. I called Millstone once upon a time to see if they add sugar to their flavored coffees, left a message, but I never got an answer. Anyone know?

| Anya: Just moved to Missouri from NM and you are right-the Thunderbolt blend is amazing!! Try calling RG Roasters at 888-989-7380 or 505-438-3461--I think they ship out of state!
