| Is it possible to do low carb and have a daily calorie count of no more than 1200 and not be hungry? Is there someplace that would list perhaps a weekly menu? |

| Goldie; Depends on your size but I think 1200 calories is a bit low for low carbing. I'd try fro a minimum of 1500 if I were you. But it depends on your current size and body build etc. As far as a weekly menu, perhaps someone would let you peek at their fitday entries. |

| I asked about calories, some months ago, and was told on low carb you don't worry about fat or calories, unless you are way over doing it.

| If you're just starting, I would recommend not trying to limit your calories for the first few weeks. Get well into the groove of low-carbing before you start messing around with things. Part of the reason for induction is to get your blood sugar levels stabilized and control of your appetite for carbs. After the first few weeks, if you still want or need to control your calories as well as carbs, you could try it. Although 1200 does sound a little low. Still, we're all different.

| if you do straight low-carbing for a while, you'll find your appetite evens out. so if you still decide you need to watch calories, too, then you can go from there and it will be easier, anyway. but for most people, they don't have to watch the calories unless they're having trouble losing.

| I found that when I was nearer to my goal weight, I had to watch calories as well as carbs. I tried to stay in the range of 1100 to 1300 calories a day, but I didn't freak if I went over. As you are on the petite side, depending on your activity level and metabolism, 1200 calories may be about right. But, don't starve yourself - that can actually slow weight loss. Eat good quality protein (4-5 oz of chicken, fish or meat) with lots of veggies; and don't drench them in butter or oil or salad dressing. You can certainly eat a satisfying amount of butter, etc., but you may not be able to eat a 1/4 cup blue cheese dressing and still lose weight. It all depends on your size, metabolism and activity level. Keep a journal of your food and exercise and weight - that way, you'll be learning what works better for you as you go along.

| At 5'2 You might be okay at 1200 calories but I would make that the minimum not the maximum. Any less and you run the risk of your body entering starvation mode and then you will have the devils own time dropping weight. JMHO |

| rob.. i didnt WANT to be at 1200... i just went to a site that said that if you are 5'2 that 1200 is needed for maintaining ... actually i am SURE i eat a heckuvalot MORE than that... but i havent counted em... as long as i am still losing inches ... but if it Did STOP i would consider lowering calories... from what i have read doing LC allows you to eat more calories than just a regular diet.... back in the day... i recall staying about 800 doing the stillmans water diet (yes yes.. i KNOW it was a million years ago...) when i stuck a french fry half way up my nose just to "SMELL it"... my dad said ENOUGH!!! *L* i guess i was about 16 or so at the time...talk about BRUTAL.. oh man.. hamburger patty... spoon or so of cottage cheese.. that is ALL i was eating a couple times a day...YIKES!! I sure wouldnt let any daughter of MINE do that either..*L* |

| Unless you're in a coma, or have glandular problems, I don't think anyone 5'2" only gets 1200 calories to maintain. If you're exercising and trying to stay somewhat active I'll wager your maintenance calories are at a minimum - 1800. Don't forget the metabolic advantage Dr. Atkins mentions. I trulu believe that we can eat more calories if we keep to low carbing than if we just counted calories and ate a low fat/high carb diet. |

| I sometimes have to struggle to get above the 1200 calorie marker myself on days...ever since I started this woe, my appetite has really suppressed - unless I'm treating myself to high carb foods. I use to could eat 2 hamburger patties with 2 slices of bacon and 2 oz of cheese to be satisfied. Now all it takes is one hamburger patty, and it's enough...sometimes it's a matter of forcing myself to eat more so not to go into starvation mode. I find that the less I weigh, the less food I eat as well...wonder if there is a correlation between this as well...anyway, I'm not even at 900 cal yet and it will be dinner time pretty soon, and I'm not even all that hungry...will have to figure out something to at least get over the 1200 cal mark... | Sheyla - Just have some veggies with 3 tablespoons of butter on them and that'll do the trick!
