Talking The Joy Of Not Weighing Every Week

heh heh heh... went to clinic yesterday ... and as of 6-23-04 i am OFFICIALLY 50 lbs lighter..*HOLD YOUR APPLAUSE*
can i just tell you a secret gang? by not weighing every day or week or even month.. i am able to go about my lifestyle without the stress of fluctuations that seem to devastate so many of you.. i get to see the total picture... i havent really known my weight for years.. several.. didnt WANT to know.. purposely told nurses NOT to tell me.. as i looked away when they weighed me.. but today.. i decided to have them jot some weights down.. there werent many in my chart..(kinda wierd).. but she did put down the ones for me since december.. (i started january 12 2004 low carbing) and from THEN till TODAY i have lost EXACTLY 50 pounds..
NO BLOODY WONDER i feel so much better.. no bloody wonder i can walk with ease.. no bloody flippin wonder i can keep up with the two year old grandson now..
what a kick in the a$$...i am in awe of this low carbing lifestyle.. i absoLUTEly am indebted to this site.. coming here almost everyday for 5 months has kept this lifestyle foremost in my mind... i have gotten information.. inspiration .. and an insight into a bigger picture of all of the different struggles people go through everyday ..
many of you have had an easy go of this... many still have struggled mightily to continue... i thank you all for your stories... your pictures.. your hopes and dreams... you keep me focused in a way i have never had before..
i wish you all success... and i thank each and everyone of you for contributing to mine..

thanks andrea!

Yanno, you don't HAVE to get on the scale at the doctor's office. My boss' wife, Nora, goes to the doctor and they ask her to step on the scale and she says: "No." She also won't allow them to take her blood pressure. Personally, I can't get up enough chutzpah to tell them no. She figures that she is paying the doctor, so she is the customer, and if she doesn't feel the need to be weighed, she won't do it.

Just thought I'd interject that.

Congratulations on the 50 pounds!!!!!! WOW!!!!

Great News Kim!! I don't have the discipline to keep off the scale. It takes all my willpower just to weigh only once a week. But if you can do this woe without weighing yourself tehn more power to you! Congratulations.

Wow Kim you are doing awesome, Im with Rob, have to weigh myself, I do it daily, but believe it or not Im not frustrated with the daily fluctuations, i kinda like watching how my body is going through this process. I thought about testing myself and see if i could go a week without weighing in, but havent done that yet, something i may do in the future i suppose.

I"m with you, Kim. Weighing too frequently makes me a crazed woman, and I'm better off when I do it very infrequently, and then only when I'm in a really good frame of mind. My jeans tell me no lies in between weighings.

i USED to weigh when i was younger.. it DID drive me crazy... as with everything else about this LC lifestyle .. you have to do what works for you..i know that when i used to weigh everyday i didnt care what i FELT like.. only what the NUMBER said..
im with you bren i KNOW where i am by putting on my jeans...
april.. i havent ever told em NOT to weigh me.. although i guess i could.. but just telling them to write it down and looked away worked for me..(gained a ton of weight that way..:-( isnt THAT special..*L*)

Congrats, Kim

I'm a fellow non-weigher, although, I do get weighed at every doctor's visit, like every three months or so.

I felt VERY tempted earlier this year to buy myself a scale. I almost caved in and got one at Costco, but they were out. I'm glad, though. My life has been much better, my dieting experience has been far easier and less maddening than all the other times that I've done it. No more micro-management. Knowing my weight every three months is good enough for me. As long as I have the impression that the very long trend line is heading downhill, I'm a happy camper.

i weigh every day too, although i know you're not supposed to. it does help me stay on top of what my food choices are doing, since i can see it and correct much quicker.

but it doesn't upset me if i don't like the scale's assessment of my weight. i just cuss it and tell it it's wrong and go about my business. LOL

:-)..
thanks for all the input... i know it doesnt work for everyone... if i hadnt come to this site i wouldnt have even asked THIS time... but i figured what the hey.. had to be better than it was...
i have done it both ways... checking it everyday... and not checking it at all... just worked better for me without checking... i can be pretty obsessive..
its not about WILLPOWER though... it was more of a deepseeded FEAR of what it would say..*L*..i DO have full length mirrors though... and when i step out of the shower every day...beLIEVE me i know if i am doing well or not...*LOL*....
also.... i have heard OVER and OVER how you can gain weight (water or otherwise) when you build muscle from exercising... now.. call me a sceptic... but really... just how much can that add... really... of course if you were a BODY builder.. i can see worrying that you had to factor in that weight.. but C'MON.. honestly... can you REALLY worry about those few ounces added each week to be able to say OH.. its probably GAIN from exercising....
jes sayin...
